Cejudo's retirement was a travesty. Absolute bollocks

No idea why he let go of the only leverage he had so easily.

What the fuck was that, and why? His retirement is almost as big as GSPs after Hendricks and Khabibs. Obviously Cejudo is the lesser draw of the 3 but it was one of MMAs biggest losses.

I don't care what you say it was absolute bullocks mate.

He was on one of, if not the best runs of all time. Beat MM in the rematch and basically ended his UFC career, beat juiced to the gills weight bully TJ dillashaw in 1 rd, moved up and fought Moraes for the belt at BW and out on one of the BEST performances of the past 10 years from any UFC fighter. It was unreal. Became double champ and Moraes never won a fight again, he technically beat Aldo but everyone agreed he didn't and we gave Aldo the titleshot after. Then he SMASHED Cruz for fun and Cruz tried to blame Keith Peterson for the loss.

To top that all off he retires. It was such bad timing and fell so flat that I thought it was an elaborate joke. He hasn't fought in almost 2 years. I agree that he wasn't a massive draw but he was on his way to becoming a GOAT. Incredible run and became a double champ.

I am so sad that he retired after that and under such circumstances.

Not even remotely close.

Followed Cejudo from the beginning. Not even 1/10th what GSP was and is.

Cruz was coming off a lay off longer than FOUR years, I do think Cruz has a point about the stoppage.

Arguably robbed MM. Beating Dillsnake/Beating MM were great wins. But overall, I see him as a guy who had shit load of problems cutting weight to a made up division for smaller BWs, then beat 'Marlon Moraes' for the title, and defended against a guy who was coming off a lay off longer than 4 years.

In my opinion, nothing lost from Cejudo retiring. And I don't think he did. I think he tried to get a leverage for higher pay, but he's obviously not a draw he thinks is, and I think he will be coming back for a paycheck.

I followed Cejudo longer than most, actually even when he was just wrestling, but it's fucking revisionist shit to tout him as one of the best ever. He's not.

Outside top 50 all time in my book.

He didn't want to defend belts and be a real champion. He's only interested in winning new belts so he can take a shortcut to the GOAT argument like Conor did. It's why he's been constantly lobbying to fight Volk ever since he retired. Didn't he have to be dragged kicking and screaming to even fight Cruz?

He chose to retire. Given how Moraes has struggled against this stacked 135 division while Henry would still be a contender it's unlikely he stays on top this whole time.

he thought he had leverage but realized after his retirement he had batshit.

He saw what Khabib did,and how Dana tried to get him to come back, thought he could do the same.

Zombie is a has been who was forced to wrestlefuck Ige because he couldn’t afford to lose. I’m definitely watching but see it as a squash match that Volk wins easily. The Cejudo fight would be fire. I don’t think he’d win but at least he’d have a chance so the fight would be interesting from start to finish. Plus the storyline about a fighter trying to become a three division champ. Way better than a has been who got out struck by Ortega. Oh well. Nostalgia lovers going to reminisce unfortunately to the detriment of the rest of us viewers

He probably thought he was going to get a role in the next jackass movie because of the wee man death rumours, but he jumped the gun.

Can’t blame him though, dwarves have a reduced life span, so he’s just trying to cash out while there’s still time

Was his choice because he overplayed his hand

The sad part is that his story will be a painful one.

He doesn’t even have anywhere close to enough money to comfortably retire, it was painfully obvious from the beginning he was gonna come back for a check, and take a bad past prime beating in the process.

In his prime he was a great fighter, and IMO should have been pfp #2 when he retired, above Khabib and below Jones.

He should do the trilogy with MM, but he’s probably still under contract with the UFC.

Miscalculated I’d say. Overestimated how much he’s actually worth. I just remember crickets within the mma community when he retired.

i remember more people talking about the stoppage and Dominic Cruz beef with Keith Peterson
I agree 100%. Henry really played his cards wrong. Dude had an incredible run but people lost interest quick.

He was under the idea his retirement was gonna be a huge deal and allow him to demand more money. While i agree that he was awesome; in reality the sport moves on and no one really gives a fuck about him these days

It was a chess move. He wanted more money and DFW called his bluff.

The guy has literally been trying to get attention without success since he retired. He is not a draw and should stop trying or go to another org if he can.

This is twice you stated he's not top 50 all time. Make a thread and a list for us I'm curious to see it.

I'm a big fan of Cejudo I want to see him come back and fight Petr Yan or Branden Moreno it would be awesome. Anyone who is able to succeed in MMA and then retire without going on a KO losing streak has my respect and best wishes honestly.

Henry didnt have many fights, lost in 2016, then had a good run, but tapped out. Not a goat. now tryin to fight champs again, but too late to the party.

He should fight max, Yair, Emmett or the winner tomorrow, than maybe a title shot
