No disrespect to Kimbo or his family, I'm saddened by their loss.

But saying he's a legend of MMA is like saying Michael Jordan is a legend of baseball, or Bill Murray is a legend of golf.

No doubt he's a legend of street fighting, but just because he transitioned to another occupation doesn't mean he is automatically legendary in every endeavor he decides to pursue.

Well he was better known than a lot of more skilled fighters. Hell, Conor could retire tomorrow and be considered an "MMA Legend"

Depends on what your criteria for legend is.

Legend is the most over used term in MMA.

The mans dead, this will be the last time he makes headlines. Let him have it.

He was fucking huge among the casuals. I don't mind people saying he's a legend because in some ways he really is.

Local newspaper in my country did the same.

He's a street fighting legend with a few MMA fights.

Loosely used indeed.

But regardless, RIP Kimbo.

I was just watching some of your street fights the other day on YoutTube. Thanks for the memories and good laugh as well.

Street fighting legend surely but mma legend....

I don't take issue with that tbh. People will still be talking about Kimbo long after they've forgotten multiple time world champions and much more accomplished athletes. I still don't understand how he got so famous amongst non fight fans for YouTube videos, but the guy was an undoubted phenomenon in his own way.

Meh. He was an icon in his own way.

RIP Kimbo ;_;

who cares?

The guy just passed away, don't be so silly.

Don't be petty.
This is why I hated the UFC signing him.
He's not a legend and wasn't even particularly skilled. He's just a name everyone knows. It's a damned shame he died but it's also a damned shame he's described this way.

The guy just died and you're preoccupied with the media characterizing him as a legend? In terms of his sheer popularity and the amount of mainstream attention he brought to the sport, Kimbo arguably is a legend. Wasn't he one of the first fighters to headline a card on primetime television? That's a huge distinction.

Splitting hairs. Besides, I doubt a mainstream media outlet really understands the difference betweens the two disciplines of MMA and street fighting.

He's a legend in my book.

Went from having nothing from the streets of MIA to becoming the biggest MMA star at one point.

Who really gives a fuck who considers who a legend?

What type of person disputes some petty bullshit like this after someone has died?

I don't agree with that at all but at the end of the day I don't care either. Luke Thomas just released a video titled "Kimbo Slice was MMA". All I could do was SMH.

7 million people tuned in to watch his fight with James Thompson, who else can claim that?
