Cauliflower Ear Drainage

yeah i went off advice on the internet and bought some insulin needles and couldn't get anything out... doc says it wouldn't have had a thick enough needle

I personnally don t get why a lot of people don t wear headgear right from the start.

What s wrong with headgear ??

Do some people think it s pussy ?? If so, then why ?

I just feel its kind of clumsy. Harder to get my head out from grips.

Also I feel its like having two handles on either side of my head. Trying to posture up and the dude just grabs my ear guard and pulls me down again.

I suppose I may be bringing this thread back from the dead.

In my third month of training BJJ and my right ear is starting to cauli. I am interested in what earguards many of you veteran wrestlers and BJJ guys are wearing.

I am on the fence about the Cliff Keen Tornado F-5 or the Asics ZW352 Unrestrained. I have read that the halo-type Brute's move too much in the course of a roll.

A few guys have commented that the Cliff Keen's seem to bother the opponents of the fighter via scratching of hands and arms. Also, some have mentioned bad smelling of the CK's and site Asics as a favorite due to washer machine cleaning. The Asics seem not to provide enough protection against trauma though(i.e. heavy shoulder rubs, light strikes, and pulling out of triangles).

I would love to hear any and all of your comments as I really want to make the best educated decision possible. And yes, I have read every thread on Sherdog about earguards using the search function FIRST.

Thanks for any help.

I like my CK tornado F5 headgear.

I hear it is the standard among wrestlers these days, but does it prove cumbersome during your BJJ rolls? I am may just buy both the Tornado F5 and the Asics Unrestrained.

Thanks for your input Frodo.

I roll BJJ with the tornado... annoying at times, but well worth the safety and comfort they provide my ears.

Thanks tribe--I am certain that any earguard is bound to be annoying, but you mention exactly what I am looking for: safety and comfort.

dont drain it yourself. thats a great way to get infected, and its only helping in the short run.

if you ice your ear right after training when its sore or swelling up, you will not need to get it drained. just ice it whenever it starts to hurt.

if you just drain it with a needle its only helping in the short run and will come right back

Ordered the Asics Unrestrained and will have my ear drained professionally (nurse/doctor) if it swells again. I highly doubt I will have any more problems with cauli as I will use the ear guards 90% of the time I roll.

Does anyone ever tape their ears down? It wouldn't provide blow protection, but could it help prevent damage from rubbing, such as along the mat or when escaping locks?
I'm just starting and cauliflower disfigurement and knee injuries are my two long-term concerns.
Thanks.

Once you have some blood collecting up or whatever in your ear, ice that shit down. I was under the impression that it would make it go hard faster(lolz) but it made the swelling go down a considerable amount.

I actually just got my ears sutured today.

They gave me percocet too.

i'm happy today because this morning i was able to drain a part of my ear that i couldn't get to drain no matter what angle i put the syringe in. once i got the right depth and angle i was able to pull about 1cc's worth of blood out.

I drained my ear for the first time on friday (2 ml) I didnt train on saturday but by say night it was the same way as before i drained it
so my question is should i drain it every day?

Headgear is teh suck. I just had mine drained last week and it filled back up again, fuck it, I'm not bothering until it effects my hearing or wearing of earphones.

Hey i don't know if i hav a minor cauliflower ear infection. It's on the ear lobe and not the part near the boney area. It feels like a small ball of hard substance. Anyone know what this is??? thanks.
