Cauliflower Ear Drainage

I got over a cauli epidemic about a month ago. It took several weeks for it to finally stick and stop filling up.

The docs are generally good at draining it, but they suck at making it stay drained.

My ears still look somewhat decent after 10 years because I am too uncoordinated to drain my own ears. I have either gone to the doctor or to my sister (who runs an emergency room).

ya I have a tingeling feeling when i touch it or put pressure on my ear (sleeping). I think somethingis building up in the top of my ear b/c i can feel little lumps in it. I think a trip to the docs is in order

I have had lots of success. You have to take at least an entire week off of training. If you have a pressure bandage stitched into your ear, then you have to also keep it dry during the entire week. This keeps your ear lob closed as it heals. The pressure bandage is essential: without it then it will probably swell up again. After a week you can usually start rolling as long as you use really wide-fitting headgear like the CK Tornado F5 (brand that I use) for a few weeks at least and as often as possible thereafter.
 
I fractured my ears, which is why I got it and why they kept filling up a lot. I tried letting the first one go, but it never got non-sore even though it did harden up. Finally I got surgery on that ear a few months after the fact. If you have a small patch of cauli, there is no harm in letting it go. If it is big, you will want to get it taken care of. If it is really bad or oozing make sure you get it looked at so it doesn't get infected.
 
You can do anything you want. There are just good and bad decisions.

But I mean would it cause long term damage to leave a minor case of Cauliflower ear?

cartilage is supposed to be reasonable flexible, if you get a minor case of cauliflower ear and you leave it it will solidify and that section of cartilage will be more stiff... and more susceptible to further injuries... p.s. it is not bad ass to have cauliflower ear, it fuckin hurts and if it gets bad can affect your hearing... also it costs money going to the doctors all the time getting it drained...

And i am sure frodo will tell you it costs even more if you have to go and have surgery on it... Just wear headgear... i do now, but am regretting not wearing it
 
I don't have it. I was just wondering, lol.

I am so scared of needles, does it hurt to get it drained? Oh and how likely is it that I could get cauli?
 
if i was starting ju-jitsu tommorow as a complete uninjured noob... i would wear the earguards...

i have a kidney stone at the moment so the pain of an 18guage needle going into my ear with no anaesthetic sounds like heaven
 
0.1/10 needle from blood test
2/10 getting my cauli. drained
4/10 burning my hand picking up a flaming branch out of the fire
7/10 breaking my ankle in 3 places when i came off a motorbike
10/10 kidney stone
 
Compared to...Say...Getting a standard shot...how much does cauli drainage hurt?
 
obviosly since i am sitting at the computer instead of writhing on the floor in agony... i am not in pain now... but i am sure it will jump back up to 10 when i need to pass this 4mm stone
 
pain is nothing if you know it will be over soon, just grit your teeth and get through it... it is when it is ongoing and you don't know if/when it will stop that you have a problem.. getting your ear drained is easy coz yes it hurts, but as soon as the needle comes out it doesn't hurt anymore
 
depends on your ears and how badly they get mauled... there is a guy at our gym who can screw the cartilage of his ear up into a little ball and let go and it all pops into shape again with no ill-effects... my ears have a more stiffer cartilage structure so if i fold my ear in half it will cause a little pain... i am more prone to cauli.ear, he is not
 
it's like asking how likely it is that you will get a tooth knocked out if someone punches you in the face... how the fuck would i know depends how often you get punched in the face how hard, how strong your teeth are how strong the person throwing the punch is how many times they hit you cleanly on the teeth etc.
 
Lol, I'm happy I have fluffy ears. I've been hit a ton of times in my ear and I'm fine. Yay yay.

When I first developed my cauli, the doctor believed it to be cellulitis (look it up- it pretty much is an infection). It's not something you wanna mess around with. It could potentially kill you, if untreated. You could also lose your ear. The symptoms are warmness, swelling, and redness and could be anywhere on body. My doctor believed it started in my ear and would spread. She gave me 1 week of antiobiotics and all of that went away, except a case of cauliflower, which persists to today.

Please, get yourself checked out.

By the way, anyone thinking cauli is cool is absolutely crazy. I hate it. It makes me cry on the inside. Not TOO many people notice mine unless told, but girls seem to point it out semi-often which sucks. It's only noticeable because my right ear is totally fine and my left one is bigger. Sometimes I think if I just evened it out and got my right ear cauliflowered like my left, nobody would notice it.
