imo best catch guy ever was masakstu funaki. Best bjj was rickson. These two already met good fight, and better man won. But if they fought 10 times it would be close

Name yours ?

The best Catch guy was Sakuraba. He was a natural LW by today's standards, had he fought BJ Penn during his prime (one of the best BJJ guys ever to lace up the gloves) I think it would have been a close fight, could go either way. I'd give an edge to Penn, but not much of one.

Saku was like 190, not natural lw.

But yes saku was a god, trained under billy Robinson rip

Purest lineage goes to funaki/ Suzuki then Ken shamrock

Saku, Barnett, Hume, Paulson all are below

The best catch guy was the Great Gama. No idea who i'd match him up with. Ruleset would determine victory.

Sak was a chubby 190 back in the day, I bet he could easily get down to walking at 175 and cut to 155. He really wasn't much bigger than Renzo in their fight and Renzo would probably be a FW these days.

Yeah cut

yeah cut loads of weight, that's not natural.

Saku could get to 170 but that's not hiss natural weight

He means dieting down to around 12% bodyfat.
But if your definition of "natural" is lacking of control on the calories, then all obese Americans are at their "natural" weight

Sometimes I wish the mods were a little more tyrannical if you know what I mean.

The best catch wrestler ever is Josh Barnett.
The best catch wrestler ever has a black-belt in jiu-jitsu and is nick-nameded "jiu-jitsu Josh" by his own coach (Erik Paulson)!

Of course, by his own account, Josh never trained BJJ, and only trained in Judo for a handful of years. But then, even by his own account, his coach is a bjj black-belt...the big thing Josh seems to have not focused on is the gi.

Modern catch wrestling is pretty poorly defined in my mind though: Does it only include guys with legit catch lineages? Does it include guys whose base is amateur wrestling and who mixed in subs when they switched to MMA?

That's exactly why he is the best catch wrestler.

Is there anything more pathetic than fangays who hang their self worth on some subfaction of a hobby they personally identify with?

I don't suppose anyone has ever heard of busting peoples balls with funny nicknames that only have a tenuous base in reality.

I would pay an obscene amount of money to see that fight.
My two all time favourites

Sak was way taller than your average LW. If he had cut weight and fought by modern standards he would have been a WW who moved up to MW in his later career.

6'0. Not uncommon, but not a whole lot taller as well. Coyboy's 6'2. Unless you meant during his competitive peak.

Cerrone is listed as either 5'11 or 6'0 depending on where you look, but point taken. Sak's frame was larger, I don't think he'd have been healthy at 155.

Barnett is probably the best catch wrestler in modern times if you consider him a CACC wrestler. Saku is up there with him as well.
