One one hand, I am happy about this franchise not being abandoned any longer.

But I do admit I wish it was still 2d sprites. It worked fine for Blasphemous and Dead Cells, why can't we have Castlevania be like that, and not like Bloodstained. The polygons will never match the speed and fluidity of sexy 2d sprites.

This is from 1997. Give us a 2d game in 2026 with the full might of pixel godliness. Not 3d TRASH

Still, I will probably mandatory buy this game

BUT

I want all of this:

and NONE of this:

But unfortunatley I am not getting my way:

Totally agree about the graphics. That polished, cartoony look is overdone and takes away much of the soul of a good 2d oriented game imo. As a kid raised on stop motion animation and arcades, I may have a bit of a bias though...

Same thing in the SHMUP genre, which is my jam. Modern offerings try that polished, cartoony look and imo never really captures anything well, even if the mechanics are solid. Of course, still littered with old school goodness so there are options.

Agreed, it looks like shit, soulless. It's like they're just making the entire game around the Netflix Castlevaia art style, which is similar across many Netflix western animation series.

It's too bad too, as the main studio working on it (Evil Empire) worked with the Dead Cells team on their Castlevania collab, that looked great.

I will say it looks and moves much better and faster than Bloodstained, but I still just want 2d horror madness. We deserve this.

I'm gonna disagree on the graphics. The ultra slick look can seem cheap in some games, but this one looks really good, and doesn't seem as lifeless as others(IE: Bloodstained). This looks to have more hand drawn cartoon-like aspects, than the weird cheap CGI effect in other games, and the levels look to have a lot of detail going on that masks that "lifeless" feeling.

It def looks better than Bloodstained.

But Gondor has no 3d
<HisEye>

Gondor needs no 3d.

I think the Blasphemous aesthetic would have fit a lot better, but I am also stuck living in the past.

The thing is breh...

We been waiting a LONG TIME for us to get REAL castlevania shit

Sure those GBA games were alright, but they were on INFERIOR hardware than the 1997 game !

WE been waiting decades for a PROPER 2d Castlevania after SOTN, and you give us polygons?!

WHY U DO THAT

Don’t forget Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement releases this year too so if this isn’t for you then you can play that instead. Personally I think this looks great. No issue with how it looks

Not only i would want it to be 3D graphics, but full 3D gameplay too

Give me a Bloodborne like remake of Symphony of the Night, done in collab with FS or any good japanese team able to cover the duty

I loved a lot old games, and SotN still is in my top10 evah, but decades after i can move on from pixel and all that...
I can still enjoy pixel art but i don't think Is highest artistic point we can have today, It was a thing due tech limitations back in the day and we give It free pass due nostalgia but we can do better today

Today we would have the tech to have ingame actual SotN artworks style

The best arc
What giant glorious thing could be
Instead for 40th anniversay i'm getting this western looking 2D game that feels so "small" compared to what we could get

-more on general-
What weird era we live in
We have companies who hold great super loved brands that instead go for giant scale glorious return keep half ass things (and get super disappointed if name alone does'nt sell)
Then we have other companies investing big on new weird products nobody asked for

They NEVER do it right. All those 3d games they tried suck. I wont say give up, but give us the 2d stuff we crave til you figure it the fuck out.

is the new version too much precision platformer instead of action platformer?

Lament of Innocence was good actually, not best Castlevania evah but good (wich for a first try is'nt guaranteed result)

The two LoS (2010, 2014) were'nt even that bad, my problem with it they did'nt feel Castlevania/japanese games at all (same i have with Netflix fake anime but ths is another story)... but i blame that on Konami for hiring some external spanish studio lol

But to be fair that was that darkest period of gaming when PS3 was crapfail and X360 was mainstream win, and everywhere scared japanese traitors devs were trying hide their work and westernize it
Like same period 2013 Capcom gave Devil May Cry to that Antoniades cunt, thinking only way to win was giving their brands to western devs who did'nt understood the products style or worse thought their own version will be superior
Then Capcom stopped being a shitscared pussy and we got a legit DMC again with 5, but it took wait 2019

Also no reason hiring quality japanese team we can't get stuff better than past attempts

Tbh if you do very same collab that gave us Bloodborne (so essential FromSoftware+Sony money) and use that insane amount of talent to remake Symphony of the Night result would be godlike imho
Of course they would have to eat in 3 and be PS exclusive, but kinda sure we would get legendary game and they woud make enough money to be all happy lol

Or other devs like Platinum would do great job too probably, or maybe a Capcom collab involving Itsuno

I'd love a 3D Castlevania game that felt like Castlevania. That's a big reason why I loved Dark Souls 1 so much. I don't know if you played that, but there's a moment after hours of exploring/suffering where an elevator takes you back to a safe/comfy starting point, also connecting the world. I was like AHA!! With that rich dark fantasy art style, I remember thinking that this was the 3D Castlevania game I always wanted.

For me it's more about the art style than the polygons. I really don't like that Netflix vibe Belmont's curse has.

It's like going from Diablo 2 to Diablo 3 disappointment wise for me.

The studio did great work on Dead Cells, so I'm sure the game will at least play great.

I dont mind them trying different shit, but goddamn it, just give us honest to goodness pixel art Castlevania on superior hardware, why the FUCK can't you give us that, we've waited so long.
