Weathers never became a Hollywood regular, but he outshined the legends he worked with on screen. For some reason we remember Apollo Creed, we remember Dillon from Predator. He went toe to toe with Stallone and Arnold in their primes and out acted them both.

Hespect

he was a good actor and a great character. Stallone tells about his audition, that he read through with him and said right after, "i could do better if you get me a real actor" Stallone said, "this is the guy!".

They did try to make a star out of him, he had Action Jackson that I saw which was alright. His career just never quite took totaly off but he made his mark.

Do you remember an actor named Steve James? He was in a lot of childhood classics for me like American Ninja.

I mention him because he acted in the same lane as Weathers but was better, IMO. I found out after reading some years ago that the poor guy died in his early forties from cancer, so he never had the opportunity to grow his career and evolve like Weathers had.

James would have made an awesome Apollo.

I don't think I have.

Just looked, I remember the face.

He had a cameo in Close Encounters as well, looks like it was cut in the theatre release but was included in following releases.

I can tell that TS is a connoisseur of fine cinema.

Really think that Weather's pictures should have won 5 Palm D'ors.. he should have been shot out of a cannon at the Cannes film festival.

Above average at making stews too

People act like his best movie was Rocky, but fuck Rocky. Action Jackson was my favorite.

Guy was charismatic af.

I remember Steve James. It was always pleasing when he showed up in some role

He deserved a best supporting actor Oscar for playing Apollo. Doesn't matter which movie, he was great in all 4 of them.

He couldnt take off. Unfortunately for him, the 80s began. That was the era of Eddie. There could only be one black star per era at the time. I think Eddie actually touched on that as well, lol. Denzel took over after Eddie.

Very good actor indeed. Yes he's underrated.

Yup, pretty much.
