There is a lot of talk about 'soul-stealing' KOs and brain-damaging, confidence-destroying beatings after which the victim is never the same. Which is true but a brutal and demoralising submission can be just as bad. E.G.:

Holly Holms threw everything but the kitchen sink at Cupcake for 5 rounds, couldn't get her out of there. Cupcake got her against the cage, locked up the choke standing, Holly tried to throw her off and ended up getting choked out cold. Miesha took her belt and Holly is 1-4 since then, including that fight.

Secondly getting the obvious one out of the way

Nog was seconds away from a huge win which would have projected him back towards the top of the division. He went to the ground with Mir and ended up getting his arm broken for the 1st sub loss of his career. He was out 11 months, came back with a gimme win against Herman in his hometown, then lost 3 in a row, including another sub loss and retired.

These subs sent these fighters' careers into a terminal nose dive.

Miesha not willing to tap and Rhonda fucking up her rotator cuff?

Mir breaks Sylvia s arm, whats more weird was Sylvia didnt realized his arm was broken and argued Herb for stopping the fight, wanted to go on fighting

Look at that tiny little finger tap lol. Soul = taken.

Steve Cantwell destroyed Razak AlHassan's arm. One of the worst subs I've ever seen.

Kazushi Sakuraba vs. Renzo Gracie, Pride 10

Even though this could have been around the time she dealing with a hard loss ( in her personal life I mean ) cat Zingano was never the same after getting tapped by Ronda

Melvin guillard after his loss to Joe lauzon. Never got the momentum he had before that fight again.

Conor losing to a LW journeyman on short notice. He was going to get knocked out before panic wrestling but whatever.

His invincible aura disappeared forever and it's never coming back...

Big Nog sucked before that he just had not met the real competition until he run into Frank. All the people he submitted was way behind the times in BJJ training. The one thing he is and was was tough but tough can also be along the lines of stupid it just depends on how you want to look at it.

Aleksei Oleinik takes Travis Browne's submission virginity and retires him with an unorthodox choke

The vacant HW belt had been taken by sub, the interim belt had changed hands by sub but this guillotine was the first and remains the only time the full HW belt has changed hands by submission.

UFC 188 was all set up to be Cain Velasquez's big comeback from time out and put his stamp of authority on the division. It would have been a record-breaking 3rd defence of the belt. It was set up in Mexico City to get him over on a big scale in Mexico and Latin America. This fight came after his first long spell of inactivity and he got destroyed and was forced to tap out in a huge victory for BJJ over wrestling. Since then he has only fought once in almost 3 years, which was a fairly meaningless victory over Travis Browne and he is probably never coming back.

That choke cost Dana and CM Punk dozens of millions of dollars lol.
