There are female empowerment undertones with both the trailer and how they market this outside the trailers. Not to mention the history of the character in the comics. The villain in the newest iteration of her solo comic is pretty much the embodiment of "The Patriarchy".
The Russos have misdirected, yes, but the majority of the time, what they show/tell us is what happens.
So how do you know what the Russos/Feige/others have said about her character is merely hype and not true?
Yes they also marketed the black panther movie to the African American community and it made them more than all there other movies even IW (I think ). So can you really blame them for trying to do the same thing with Captain Marvel? When the movie came out though what did we see? A very racist black community that was letting their own people die while they hide and they had to learn\grow to become better people.
I don't know for sure no one does. I have seen all the movies and I see no reason for them to completely go a different direction then they have in the last 10 years over one new marvel hero. I just trust that this movie will be the same as all the other Avenger movies. Big threat comes, Avengers team up, everyone works together to take down bad guy.
