Can't believe how much money this made. Truly insane how strong Marvel's name is. They could make a billion dollars with a camera zoomed in on a pile of cow shit for 2 hours. I guess it must be little girls and their parents that are bringing the money. Every hardcore male Marvel fan that I know hates this movie

I think this has more to do with IW than the Marvel name. Antman 2 didn't do this well. I went to see this just because of IW otherwise I would have waited until it came out on bluray like I did Antman.

What happens if (when??) Thor gets Captain Marvel pregnant??

I wanna see Pregnant Marvel flying around fighting stuff

Came into this movie with low expectations. Was pleasantly surprised. solid 7/10.

I don’t understand the brie Larson hate. I think the writing and timing of jokes were just bad. She did a great job becoming instantly close with Samuel l Jackson and the other black lady even though she just met them. It wasn’t set up properly at all

Finally saw it the other day, and actually thoroughly enjoyed it.

The trailer looked pretty mediocre and I wasn't expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised.

It started pretty slow and took a while to get going, but by the end I was sold on Captain Marvel and am looking forward to Endgame more than ever.

8.5/10

So I finally went to see it with my wife. We watched in Imax.
I came in with very low expectations, and the movie ended up not being bad. Zero re-watch value for me, but nice for one evening.
What I did not like:
-Brie Larsson and her character. Brie spends half the movie with the same irritating half-grin, after 1,5 hours I turned to my wife and said darling, I'm getting tired of her stupid smile. Also Carol Danvers is written inconsistently. One minute she is a mysterious alien and next she is best buddies with people she does not know. The emotional line of the character was not that deep and I did not feel empathy towards her (yeah I am a white hetero cisgender male and this movie was not filmed for me, yadda yadda shut up Brie).
-Kree are overpowered, scrulls dont feel as a threat at all.
-Vers is overpowered even in the beginning of the film, and more so as the movie progresses. Mary Sue of MCU. Nothing in this whole movie is a threat to her, and her FTL space travel is just ludicrous.
-Action is rather weak. Either they had shit choreography or Brie can't fake-fight at all. Maybe both.
-CGI face of Larsson while in space suit with holo-lid on looks worse than some modern games. Marvel should seriously stop giving head animations to small CGI studios, first Banner's head weirdly protruding from a painfully CGI-ish Hulkbuster, and now this.
What I liked:
-It is not boring. I was not captivated, but I was interested.
-No excessive feminism (at least in Russian translation. Maybe they softened it a bit). The girl power is there, but not to butthurt levels.
-Overall pleasant visuals and good, not excessive CGI.
-Secondary characters are nice. Mendelsohn, Law and Jackson did their part well.

Overall I give it a 5 or 6 out of 10, but let me say that I am much more reserved with my points than an average Sherdogger and I think only Marvel movie deserving a 9 is Infinity war.
Captain Marvel is nowhere near IW and is very much inferior to Iron Man, Civil war and other best Marvel films, but I liked it a lot more than, say, Ant man and the Wasp which was plain boring and stupid.

Fury is a Skrull, he is trying to weaken Earths defenses.

In Winter Solider he engineered the Hydra takeover of Shield in order to remove Shield and the weapons they were creating with the tesseract. No advanced weapons, no resistance. He knew all along about the Hydra takeover and pushed it forward. He even made it look like he died, an easy giveaway that he is a Skrull. A Skrull can morph into a person with their guts laying out, just for fun even. This ballsy Nick Fury replacement was playing a dangerous game when he let Hydra attack him in his car, but he kept at it, ran his con and in the end both Hydra and Shield were removed from the board. Skrull gets a big win. Two threats wiped out.

He intentionally did not page Captain Marvel during the New York attack because he wanted the Avengers dead and the Earth further weakened. His ideal scenario involved Thanos coming to Earth and the avengers dying trying to kill him. If Thanos dies too, great. Thanos is a problem and the Avengers are a problem. Let them take each other out on Earth.

He never investigated Tony Stark’s parents murders or if he did, he covered it up to use when he felt necessary. If he had looked into it, he would have noticed that a former serviceman who fought beside Captain America named Bucky Barnes looked a lot like the guy who killed Tony starks parents. Why not diffuse the argument by bringing it up before it had a chance to boil over? He might have even been Zemo himself in the civil war movie. Could be the same guy.

He engineered a situation whereby Tony Stark would feel alone, without Shield and isolated from any U.S. government guidance or insight. He never stepped in when Tony was drinking alcohol to talk to him. Didn’t prevent the proliferation of Iron Man armor via War Machine stealing it when by stepping in he could have - all because he is trying to arm lots of factions on earth with machines he knows backdoor hacks to get into. Trying to remove the possibility of a coordinated Iron Man defense against Skrulls makes perfect sense.

You think Nick Fury didn’t know about Wakanda? Come on. He needed to find a way to get this tech giant’s shields down. What’s better than getting them involved in high stakes emotion heavy violence over the death of their king? Bring them out into the world and see what happens. Try to get inside and find out what you can. Learning more about Wakanda is a key for a takeover of Earth.

How do you think the Hulk went from flying in that Shield airplane to just moving off the planet and into an arena tournament on this junkyard world? The Skrull probably had people living in the junkyard. The people who brought hulk might have made good money betting on him and worked their way out of the ghetto. Plus it's the closest thing to killing him, without anyone knowing what happened. On that Arena world with Jeff Goldbulm loving him, giving him a throne and a place to sleep, he should theoretically be both gone forever and right where the Skrull want him to be: where nobody else can find him, training. Alive in case they ever feel they need to shapeshift into one of his friends to convincing him to do something. Fury couldn’t predict Thor would make his way there.

Fury is probably operating as a single agent among a network with the responsibility of weakening planets like Earth in any way possible and preparing it for Skrull invasion/replacement.

Might even work for a more militant branch of Skrull, who would have killed the British Skrull without hesitation. Or perhaps the British Skrull was a red herring and many Skrull still remain.

The duplicitousness of the Skrull must never be underestimated.

Of course when Thanos wiped out half the life in the universe, that was too far for Nicholas “Skrull” Fury because he wiped half the Skrull too. He therefore had to call in Cap Marvel.

Skrull Fury will return

This is Gold

And a perfect explanation for many things dam

seriously 10/10 good work
Yeah but cant Cap Marvel tell if someone is a Skrull and when she first met Fury, she attacked any Skrull on sight?

movie would've played better if it didn't rip off much of Captain America First Avenger IMO

lead has zero charisma, but fit well w/ Samuel L.

I'd put this on the Thor 2 level, not horrible but not memorable in the slightest
