Canelo vs GGG rematch looking unlikely for 2018

Mike Coppinger of The RING is reporting that the two sides have stalled out in negotiations, and that Golden Boy and Oscar De La Hoya are looking to move on to another opponent.

De La Hoya reportedly says that they’ll be contacting Daniel Jacobs, Billy Joe Saunders, Jermall Charlo, and ... Spike O’Sullivan. So one of those names is not quite like the others.



Here’s part of what De La Hoya said, from Coppinger’s RING article:

“It’s clear to us that Golovkin doesn’t want to fight Canelo. It’s clear to us that after all the demands that they made, after Canelo having to do the hair follicle test, having to enroll in VADA, having to be tested by the Nevada State Athletic Commission randomly even before he was enrolled in VADA, it’s clear that GGG is afraid.”

yeah GGG's camp has been really unreasonable with all the demands after the failed test. i mean, they want canelo to be tested year round just like golovkin is, they want him to play by the rules of WBC like he's supposed to, and they apparently wanted him to take a hair follicle test, which was fucking brutal. apparently, it's also GGG who made NSAC test canelo.

oscar is right, they're scared shitless.

Over-postured is relative. To normal people, the demands were simple and obvious. To Oscar, any attempt to get his fighter cleaned up is apparently too much to ask. This sounds almost satirical to me.

Everyone has the right to do what they want. But through all of this, GGG looks like a man and Canelo looks like a boy. Oscar looks like the worst version of what we always knew Oscar was.

Canelo and his owner have done more to hurt Canelo's reputation and legacy in the last year than any fighter I can think of in recent memory.

I don't think that's the case. Canelo has way more fans, yet the buzz all seems anti-Canelo. Canelo is pretty clearly in the wrong here, so it's almost universal that people are criticizing him.

According to Loeffler, he requested a better deal for his boxer - which De La Hoya rejected.

Oh I see what you're saying. So you are saying that GGG needs to just accept Oscar's offer, after his fighter got a favorable draw in the first fight and then was caught cheating?

Na, I think the general consensus is correct here. This is more of the same from Oscar and Canelo. Canelo's popularity is taking a hit, I've heard nothing but bad things about him since the first fight. I've heard nothing but good things about GGG.

At some point, Canelo needs to grow up and take control of his own career. He seems like the diva of the sport right now.
