can you use BJJ in wrestling?

Banana splits and bar arms are technically subs, but causing pain as a goal is technically against the rules so you can get penalized for this. I think some half guard techniques from bottom might be the most useful as reversals and escapes....

except for the fact that headlocks are illegal in wrestling. its called a head and arm.

You do realize we are talking about the same exact thing, you are just calling it something else. And in new jersey, at least where I wrestled, if I pinned someone with a "head and arm" we called it a headlock. Its just different terminology for the same thing.

but if you ever wrestled you would know that nobody taps out on a head and arm. they start to give up and let you pin them but it will never be a submission move.

I have tapped people in wrestling with head and arms. Granted they sucked but still. Also, Coleman tapped Severn with a head and arm

and you tap people with a regular headlock? you're better off with the arm in their, and you can tap people with the head and arm, as long as they don't really know what they are doing, or they're very exhausted. Just clock into it and squeeze.

The key with this one is that you cant move the guys arm up his back at all, any movement or cranking has to be to the opposite side of his back, which will manipulate his shoulder so he has to turn to his back, this was one of my money moves in high school.

yeah, I believe the rule is it has to stay at 90 degrees, or it can't go past 45, or some shit. I can't remember.

I have seen guys get caught in the Anacando or an arm triangle and get choked out. A smart oponent usually rolls them over and pins them without the ref noticing. The poor guy wakes up and doesn't realize that the match is over....

With MMA and sub garppling getting more popular, I notice more refs are starting to look for that though...

From what I read, the Olympic Wrestler Dave Shultz used this move alot. he would get a head/arm and squeeze til the guy went limp, then move to a superior position, at which point the guy would come to.

Dear TS,

No, you can't use joint locks / chokes in high school(folkstyle) or olympic (freestyle and greco) wrestling. I believe using these in any wrestling practice would get your ass gang stomped by the entire team. Please die in a fire.

Kisses,

Ballz

no cause headlocks are illegal. and i guess you could, but they would have to be really new or experienced in bjj or something where tapping is more common. ive only seen three tapouts with my own eyes in wrestling, two from banana splits and one which i dont even know what it was. most wrestlers will just give you the pin if they are exhausted, tapping is not even taught to most wrestlers.

the only thing I can think of is quick explosive sweeps off your back should you get there. I mean the instant you get there you pull that off to reverse and get off your back. Mount with hooks (grapevine) and hold the arm and head in a head and arm choke position works great for the pin. I won all my matches like that. no armbars, kneebars. submissions are illegal, especially the obvious ones. you can probably sneak in a guillotine from a front headlock position with the arm in

I've used VERY quick butterfly/elevator sweeps. Did catch some people off guard (BJJ guy who got the chance to work wrestling with the local team).

As a former wrestler threads like this really piss me off. The ignorance is just dumbfounding.

In wrestling submissions are ILLEGAL!!!

NO you can't use GUARD in wrestling, as the object of wrestling is to PIN THE SHOULDERS TO THE MAT!!!!

If you don't know wrestling, and haven't wrestled before read the rules before asking idiotic questions like this. TS is either a blatant troll or the dumbest person alive.

Finally, I'm pissed it took untill the second page for someone to say it.

Sure there are little dirty tricks you can use to cause pain/discomfort to your opponent, but if you get caught plan on being penalized or even DQ'd. Its wrestling, not sub-grappling, not BJJ, and not Judo. While they may look the same to some, especially when applied to MMA, NHB, or self defence; there's glaring differences when you get into the actual sport/competition side of things.

are people really that oblivious to wrestling and bjj to figure out the original question on your own?
