I have never wrestled and never been to any wrestling matches, do they have any rules against that? Cause it would be pretty funny if somebody tries to pin you down during a high school wrestling tournament and you slap a triangle choke on him and put him to sleep. If this was 1993 when nobody knew anything about BJJ and I was in high school I would join the wrestling team and start submitting guys left and right !

i use a lot of jiu jitsu fundamentals in my wrestling matches.

Fundamentals as establishing superior position? That's a given. I am talking about actual submissions. Cause it seems to me high school wrestling would be so much more exciting and practical if they turned it into high school submission wrestling.

there are a lot of rules in wrestling that dont exist in bjj. youre not allowed to use headlocks in wrestling, you have to have the arm in there. youre not allowed to scissor the head, and your not allowed to figure four the body. of course, you wouldnt want to use your bjj gaurd in wrestling because that would give them points and potentially pin you. a triangle choke would be legal though as long as you use a figure four, by definition. the foot is not allowed to touch the leg anywhere except from the knee and up.

what about an armbar or a kneebar?

Anaconda. Except instead of rolling over your back you turn the corner and mount. I think a brabo might work too no?

Dude, intentionally causing pain is against the rules, and most neck, shoulder, elbow and leg locks are illegal.

Almost every move that you learn in BJJ is either nonexistent or taught in a more applicable form to the wrestling ruleset.

No, not really you cant. Nothing that isnt already covered in wrestling.

its kind of like asking, "can i use my kickboxing in Boxing?"

At a wrestling tournament back in the day my opponent was trying to roll me over. He was on my back and had reached across my neck and grabbed my bicep to break down my base. I braced my leg to avoid getting turned and blacked out.

I now know that I had been caught in a variation on the arm triangle. The ref noticed I was out and the match was stopped. I wasn't on my back, so I wasn't pinned. Pretty much all of my injury time was used up in reviving me and making sure I was ok. By the time the match was restarted, with me on the bottom (par-terre position) I was getting that adrenaline rush that seems to come on after regaining consciousness.

At any rate, I reversed him and won the match by technical superiority.

In any case, choking someone out won't win a wrestling match for you - unless they're on their back when you do it.

Yea, then you could go to a boxing gym and leg kick the crap out of everybody. Idiot....

i wonder if this guy had to fight Eddie Bravo for name rights, lol

I always thought trying a spinning kimura off of a stand up. It'd be a pretty sweet reversal.

yeah, and probably get jumped in the parking lot...the only way you can really slip a submission in without people knowing is with an arm triangle, because it basically just looks like you are pinning someone with a headlock. And if the ref calls you on it you can just say "what, I just had him in a headlock"...just dont make it toooooo obvious by using exact right bjj form

I feel as though as a last line of defense though you might be able to hit a butterfly or elevator sweep, but its risky because if you miss you are on your back and about to get pinned.

Dude, the triangle choke is not legal, and even if it were you would get stacked and pinned before you finished it.

I guess you could try; but if the wrestler gets the takedown and is on top he might ground and pound you. And if your takedowns aren't good, he might just keep you at a distance and kill you with strikes ...

Moreover, if you're fighting in the heavyweights and you pull guard, you have to watch out for the atomic butt drop. It can get pretty dangerous.

ie if you're going to troll, expect troll answers.

they do have a lot of techniques that can be submissions when cranked; here's a well known one:

and here's another:

they are actually starting to crack down on things like this. you know the banana split? you are no longer allowed to grab the opposite leg and just pull till hell breaks loose;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFRZ9B2GubI

instead most places will teach you to grab their ankle with the arm on the opposite side of the leg with the grapevine in, and then reach through their legs and grab your own wrist. this rule actually just came into effect in 2007.

except for the fact that headlocks are illegal in wrestling. its called a head and arm.

yes it is. how would the triangle choke be an illegal move as long as when you locked your legs up you kept it to a figure four and not a scissor? and no you probably wouldnt want to use it, as i said in my original post

They're still called headlocks even if they aren't technically one. Intentionally causing harm to your opponent will get the match stopped and the moment your opponent can't breathe or begins to pass out, the match would be restarted in referee's position.

I have seen guys get caught in the Anacando or an arm triangle and get choked out. A smart oponent usually rolls them over and pins them without the ref noticing. The poor guy wakes up and doesn't realize that the match is over....

With MMA and sub garppling getting more popular, I notice more refs are starting to look for that though...
