Ok.. so I recently took the leap and began training BJJ, I've already chosen the perfect gi but then when it came to purchasing a rash guard I was extremely disappointed to find very little choice with very boring designs for ladies. The men however have a vast array of awesome designs I would happily wear. Is there a specific purpose for them to be gender catagorised? Or is it just a social norm?

women can wear whatever they want. if you can't find an mma brand that caters exclusively to womens tastes, check out surfing brands for rash guards.

If Janae Kroc can wear a dress, why can't you wear men's tights? Do you think your sensei will kick you out of the dojo because your h3llas1ck BJJ spats are men's?

No I don't think he would. That would be a bit extreme lol

Talking to my girlfriend, 'female' gear are typically a bit narrower in the shoulders with a bit more room around the hip. Its not that much difference and my girlfriend often wears men's gear because the designs are good and she doesn't have the hourglass body most women have anyways.

A good company that makes quality gear and doesn't automatically assume women only want ponies and pink gear is Tatami Fightwear. Fair prices and there are usually female versions of nearly all male gear.

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely check Tatami out ☺

Just like your sense of humour
You shouldn't really be bothered by him, he's just treating you the same as he treats everyone else, with mild distaste and sarcasm. But he's a good poster :)

We're going to need pics of your body to be able to fully confirm whether a men's rash gaurd is going to fit or not...

i would imagine it really depends on your dimensions. id say just go to a store that sells rashguards and try a mens one on to see if it fits well. walmart has low quality rashguards for like 12$. ive used one for years now and the only difference with a 50$ bjj marketed rashguard that ive had for about the same time is that some materials have come loose at the seams and that the bottom of the rashguard rides up as it doesnt change in material at the bottom like the expensive one does.
