Its not Weidman, Jones or Smith’s fault the UFC matched them up with older, big name fighters that may or may not have been over the hill.

I know we all love guys like Shogun, Machida, Vitor, Anderson, etc but you put enough fights in and everyones career comes to a rough decline at some point

Im glad LHW finally has a couple young new faces coming up, its gonna need it after DC retires

This is true although Jones has earned his hate on his own merits since then

Agreed, Jones hate is warranted although people disliked him prior to the roid controversies because he beat guys like Shogun, Rampage, Machida, Vitor and Rashad

I fucking love legend killers, they bring so much salty popcorn into my pathetic meaningless life!!

True but I mostly hated him because that was when he was doing his fake ass "I love Jesus" gimmick which was somehow more annoying than the roiding cokehead who can't drive thing he's had going on since

It's the guys who call out legends to make a name that I hate.

Schaub
Miles Jury
Weidman did it
Colby

And they always get ktfo and then fade once they run out of senior citizens to harass.

Beating "legends" is how these guys now considered legends came up

I don't like the term though.
If, as you say, the "legend" is at the tail end of his career, the "legend killer" is not really killing a legend, but the pale reminder that that fighter was once.

No, "legends" like Shogun, Rampage, The Noguiera's, Fedor, Crocop, Couture, Barnett ETC got legendary status from beating fellow elite fighters during their era. Rampage wasn't calling out Royce Gracie, The Nogueiras weren't calling out Marco Ruas ETC.

If a past prime "legend" still sits at a higher ranking than the guy calling him out I have no issue with it.

JUST BLEED God enjoys the Blood of his Saints as well as that of Sinners

I was just going to say the same thing. Anderson himself became a legend by annihilating a previously dominant Rich Franklin and ending his championship run forever.

Rich became popular after defeating freaking Ken Shamrock after all. That's about as "legend killer" as it gets.

Hell Sakuraba is one of the most respected names in MMA history and he made a career for being a "legend killer" and "Gracie Hunter" ushering in a new era in MMA.

Not

Props to Smith for not doing that and calling out Gus instead

That's what I'm referring to. None of those legends "came up" padding their records/beating legends like some of todays prospects. Many of those "legends" started their careers fighting/beating top competition which is why they receive the accolades they do. (Ex: The Nogs, Shogun, Crocop). They jumped into the fire headfirst.

I disagree.
The name value keeps them a lot higher than they should be (most of the time).
And if you are talking legend, then killing a legend should ONLY apply if the guy is at the top (i.e. Weidman beating Silva).
When Bisping beat SIlva, he was not at the top, so you are not legend killing... make sense?

Better to beat old legends than to lose to them. It's also not anybody's fault when some of these older fighters are still around hanging out in the top 10. Someone has to fight these guys.

No hate for Smith, but seriously fuck UFC and their matchmakers.

Instead of an epic rematch with aging Cro Cop and Nog, they booked both guys against Brendan Schaub.

Instead of Rashad Shogun, they put them both against Anthony Smith.

There are countless examples, it’s obvious what they’re doing and it’s disgusting.
