The fact that he acknowledged before the fight that Nate is a tough fucker that's only been TKO'd once would imply that he was well aware that Nate might be able to take his shots. So he's now saying that he didn't plan for that, even though he acknowledged it before the fight?

Diaz' defense and his reach stymied Conor's game.
McGregor is selling Diaz short by claiming that it was just his toughness that won. Diaz rolled with most of what Conor landed, and he managed the distance much better than Conor. Conor whiffed constantly in the first round, with stupid kicks, uppercuts, and hooks that missed the mark, because he struggled to manage the distance between himself and a taller fighter that is used to fighting long. Missing with big power shots wears you out fast.
Diaz outworked Conor, and finished him, and yes "derp, he was just too tough," is basically denying that it was Diaz' skillset that beat McGregor.
