True, though they havent tapped into the Spanish market yet unlike they did with Ireland.
He's already bringing massive soccer/football stars to fight nights, he has massive potential
Conor vs Mendes did 1M PPV buys on his very first PPV main event where he didn't even fight Aldo lol. And had they had him headline over the higher weight Lawler/Rory WW title fight because they knew he was already a star.
You're batshit crazy if you think Volk/Ilia is doing anywhere near that. No casual even knows who Ilia is. He's getting the title shot because there's no one else.
Topuria is already big on his side of the world, he has a huge fan base. If he wins and keeps winning he'll be a big star. Not Conor level but still big.
The only stat why matters when it comes to this comparison is - how many viewers and how much money does he bring in? He's a good fighter but I don't sense any superstar quality so far. He's had 6 fights in 3 years and has only been on the main card of a PPV once. McGregor had headlined 3 events in the same period. Not saying he is not good but he is not in the same league needle-movement wise
People forget Mcgregor had massive support from fans even when he was prelim fighter. In his first main event on free tv he pulled the best ratings in history of the company.
1. It's very difficult for any fighter to become a star (let alone a "superstar") in the UFC if they can't speak English.
2. Conor swagger jacks some random model with his entire look. Then Topuria swagger jacks Conor's chest tattoo AND spinal tattoo. So strange.
Zero rizz . Dude has no presence during fight press conferences. And don't blame it on ESL, many fighters' charisma comes through fine through translation and even just body language.
