Can Merab beat a healthy Yan?

I'd heavily favor Merab to win again, already beat Yan and Yan is very hit and miss, sometimes he looks good but other times he is too slow at starting and only gets going after round 2 is finished. I would go with a 50-45 for Merab

To be honest the guy that gave Merab the hardest fight was Aldo by far. But Aldo TDD is insane, its beyond words, Merab was just never gonna get him down, no matter what.

Since he has beaten every single guy in the division I would say yes. I feel like at this point even if he loses there arent many people who would say he sucked anyway. I think he is in that we all know he is legit. Its crazy how many champs ever get that far. Shit there are people who say Izzy wasnt very good. Merab is way past him at this point legacy wise

I think hes more on par with Izzy than way past him. 12 fight win streak at 185 and defended his title 5 times with just a singular close loss at 205 when he tried to claim a second title. Beat guys like Whittaker x2, Poatan, Romero, Vettori, Costa, Cannonier. Merabs on a 14 fight win streak with 3 title defenses Omalley x2, Yan, Aldo, Umar, Sandhagen. You can argue Merabs competition was better but Izzy had 5 defenses vs 3. Its pretty easy, Izzy fell apart terribly at the end of his career, will Merab?

Takedown defense is one aspect of defensively wrestling, the ability to create separation, get off rhe cage and effectively strike under such pressure is another. Aldo really sucked in this regard later in his career, Merab and Bautista just exploited the hole Volk showed them.

Merab did to Yan what people claimed Merab did to Sean in their first fight. One of the most one sided fights I've ever seen. Yan has zero chance of winning, what a waste of a title fight that would be.

The only fight that makes sense for Merab next is the winner of Mario/Umar or Pantoja.

Is that Joe? Hes got some slick noves.

Yan can hurt him, but if he doesn't finish Merab, he gets 49-46'd. Yan can match Merab's pace early.. until he starts shooting in on Yan's hips and gives him something else to think about.

Cmon bro. You don’t believe that.

You summarised Izzy’s career with great bias too.

Good Izzy wins: Whittaker 1, Costa (was it though?), Gastelum (was it though?), Poatan.

Contentious Izzy wins: Romero, Whittaker 2

Clear Izzy losses (why are you omitting these?): Jan, poatan, Strickland, imavov, DDP.

Beating Vettori and cannonier is kind of meaningless.

He only has two high quality good wins: Poatan and Whittaker.

1. Yan was injured
2. Umar literally just lost to him and a win against a non top 5 like Mario hardly earns him a shot, whereas Yan has 3 top 10 wins in a row.
3. You saying Yan has zero chance is irrelevant and emotional.
4. If Yan v Merab was one of the most one sided you have seen, you haven’t seen many fights.

Imagine hating Petr Yan lol. What a weirdo

Every fighter who loses is injured

Yan is probably the best scrambler/counter wrestler in the game but Merab managed to do what he does against him too. If Yan was damaged going into that fight that would help explain why his conter grappling wasn't as on point as usual, as opposed to Merab actually being that good. Of course, Merab is that good, so while I hope Yan can get this done, I wouldn't bank on it.

One thing about Yan, he puts on awesome fights and is a true JBG disciple. I haven't seen anyone mention the JBG in a while, so I'm bringing it back.

Never forget...

Couldn't agree more. If you don't like Petr Yan, you should try another sport... like knitting.

Of course he can merab can probably beat anyone up to lw division maybe ww.

But I believe yans skill and style is the hardest fight for merab at his weight class.. I Ben waiting for the rematch yan gets screwed alot.

Omalley is delusional lost twice.
Umar is gonna duck the comeback fight.
He's toasted everyone else.

He's got a yan rematch and then he should fight lw champ since he won't fight his buddy volk.
