I know Frankie is extremely durable in his fights, and is great about coming back afterwards, but can he take Conor's shots?

Gray Maynard gave him a couple good scares, but does Conor hit harder than Maynard??

I'd have to guess no he couldn't since most people haven't. It would be a good fight for sure though.

Real question is can Conor even make FW again to defend that belt.

I don't think he will have to.

He shoots in on McG, Conors getting put on his back.

It will be like the Mendes fight, minus Frankie gassing.

That's a very good question and one of the reasons why this is one of the most interesting fights I can think of.

Frankie is Conor's nightmare, stylistically speaking. He's got a great wrestling game, awesome cardio and footwork. He also has a great chin, but he's also known for getting hit every now and then - and Conor's got that extremely dangerous left hand. How would Conor deal with Frankie's wrestling? How would Frankie deal with Conor's knockout power? I'd love to see it.

In my ideal world, Conor would have his rematch with Nate, Frankie would beat Aldo and then they'd fight for the belt. I don't think that's happening though.

No I doubt he can - Gray Maynard is a wrestler with about 2-3 KOs, Conor will howver have fits with his pressure, movement and cardio.

Conors chance is I don't really see Frankie finishing him before the 4th round.

If he can use his size and strength and some improved TDD to keep it standing even a third of the time, Frankie will be in a bit of danger.

Don't see this fight happening anyway unless Conor is a complete bust at LW.

Frankie's wars with Gray Maynard give me reason to believe that he can take McGregor's shots. There is no way to really know which fighter (Gray or Conor) hits harder, but it is still reasonable to believe that Frankie may take Conor's shots without going out.

I pick Frankie to win vs Conor ...

The question is, how long can Conor throw them for?

All Frankie needs to do is drag Conor into the deep water and drown him.

Conor is definitely more likely to hit than Maynard, but I highly doubt McGregor hits harder than Maynard did at the time he was challenging for the belt. Maynard was huge, and when he did decide to put his weight into punches on people they did big damage. Also dosent help Conor's cause that Frankie is seemingly hitting his physical peaks at fw. He's been in unreal shape and just straight dominating everyone. I still have Frankie taking it if they fight

Not sure if Conor hits harder than Maynard, but it's safe to say that chin has been getting loosened up throughout the last few years.

I'd say a solid punch from Conor would prove to be near fatal for Frankie.

Conor should have the advantage on his feet, but he won't overwhelm Frankie with his power. No chance. After seeing his performance against Mendes I'm not even that sure Conor is that much better on his feet. Dude was the lightweight champion and is probably a little small for FW, so he's proven he can take a beating from bigger guys than Conor. Assuming he doesn't eat a lucky shot, I see him dragging the fight into the championship rounds and finishing him off.

Him eating a bomb from Maynard is a completely different kind of bomb from McGregor.

Maynard was a physically strong individual and a real powerhouse.

McGregor is physically strong for FW but his power is a combination of extreme muscle memory and a genetic gift. A striker like Mcgrefor has a different kind of pop at the end of his strikes, a flick that alot of MMA fighters dont have. Especially the grapplers who go into MMA.

That added with Frankie's age and wear and tear, no i dont think he could.

But i also dont think Mcgregor would be able to land a clean left hand bomb on Frankie.

Unless you're actually referencing the Maynard fight, I don't see where Frankie has taken much accumulated damage in the past 4 years. Not sure which fights you were watching. Apart from Aldo, Conor doesn't one-punch KO anyone. He beats them down with multiple hard, well-timed shots. I don't think that strategy works against someone with better footwork, wrestling, and ground game.

I'd be surprised if he could take many clean shots from Conor. Frankie can't take shots like Nate Diaz and Conor has KO'd basically everybody he's ever fought. Aldo is known for having a great chin too, got put down by a punch that Conor didn't really throw much into at all. It's not about power, land in the right spot and anybody can be put down, unless you're Nate Diaz because his chin is just ridiculous.

Frankie does have a great chin, but I'm more impressed with his ability to recover quickly. With Nate, he has a great chin to the point that basically no matter what you hit him with it doesn't do anything to him. The guy took a perfect head kick from Josh Thomson, he even leaned into it, and still didn't get put to sleep like almost everybody would. His chin is fucking ridiculous, Frankie can't take shots like that. Just because Nate did it doesn't mean Frankie will.

Now, Maynard has tons of power, but that guy can barely finish anybody. He's not Conor McGregor, not even close. Conor is one of the best finishers in MMA history, if he hurts you at all, you're done for, he's going to put you away.

I'm not saying Conor would go in and destroy Frankie, just that if Conor lands that left clean like he has on pretty much everybody, I don't see Frankie surviving it. I see him getting TKO'd, Conor won't go crazy on him like Maynard did, he'll pick his shots, mix it up nicely and put him away. He's smart with the way he finishes people, he doesn't just swarm like a mad man. That's one of the reasons he's so effective with finishing fights, because he picks his shots intelligently, creates openings and lands clean over and over.

Frankie is known for getting hurt bad and coming back to make it a close fight or win, but getting hurt like that will catch up to you. Frankie hasn't been hurt in a long time, he's improved so much in all aspects, it's especially nice to see him going back to his wrestling and not just standing so much anymore too, but like Conor said, the chin doesn't recover, it catches up to you. All great chins have been or will be cracked someday, that's just how it is. Look at Dan Henderson, Shogun Rua, Roy Nelson even got KTFO by Mark Hunt, etc, etc. Everybody can be KO'd and Frankie getting finished by Conor would not surprise me at all. He has the power and skill to do it.

I know that's not really the question, but I feel the need to bring it up to the discussion everytime someone mentions Frankie's war against Maynard.

How awesome is that? Frankie's practically a bantamweight, for Christ's sake, and here we are, talking about his fights as a lightweight champion and his great possibilities of beating the current featherweight champion. Someone could might as well say that Frankie has a chance of being the first three division champion and there's nothing crazy about it.

I don't think Conor can take Edgar's best shots.

And so when Frankie shoots that TD odds are Conor is going on his back and assuming the position.
