The casting punch is a punch used in Combat Sambo and MMA that starts with a forward motion of the shoulders, which causes the bent arm to whip forward to the opponent. This punch can often cause the opponent to be put in a clinch if it misses at close range.

DC loves uppercutting from the clinch, especially against taller fighters.

He can throw the casting punch against Jones- if it lands, it lands, if it misses, he finds himself in the one position that he found consistent success in against Jones.

Please don't flame me.

I'm pretty confident DC used and even spammed the casting punch and his uppercuts were neutralized most of the time as I recall but found much success with his uppercuts vs GUS.

DC has always been using that technique

That would be cool and it could really help with his style. Good idea, TS.

I don't know how hard that is to learn, whether there are intricacies beyond just starting with th shoulder and whipping the fist out. Obviously, he'd need to learn to use it really well.

It is a great technique. It easily sneaks around little gloves, you can hit like a truck with it, it's fast for an arced punch and obviously it can lead strong clinchers to their favorite place.

I could swear I have seen him throw punches like that already, though. I think there may be a fine line between a 'sloppy hook' and a casting punch.

Man, Fedor's accuracy and power in a flurry is amazing to watch.

lol casting punch. Just some made up lingo to make a wild looping haymaker appear technical.

DC doesn't have Fedor's speed or power.

DC stands lil to no chance. He's over weight for his size, is pushing upper 30s, and is going to be coming off a long lay off and injury. Jones, whenever he fights him again, wins easily in the first round, tap out due to strikes in mount

That was a traditional jab hook uppercut. I didnt see any "casting punch"

smh

I have said it again and again Jones has DC's number and he over studied him imo because he had answer for the small things that give DC an advantage.

DC fights like a pitbull he charges forward and puts on pressure from the bell and when you clinch with him to get some rest thats where he fucks you up even more with the uppercuts and Jones had an answer for it all to the small details. The way he neutralized his uppercuts were mostly work of art that people fail to pick up until this day because they don't pay attention and the same way I found out Gus had low fight IQ and took to much unnecessary uppercuts and had Gus neutralized the uppercuts he would have walked away with the belt that night and it all came down to the uppercuts for gus. Jones just neutralized DC's entire game in the clinch, wrestling and on the outside

imagine Fedor helped train DC for his rematch with Jones. If DC could perfect the technique enough to use it effectively I think he could beat Jon Jones in the stand up.

It's a combat sambo technique. Why it is so surprising that a sport that incorporates both striking and grappling would have strikes that facilitate grappling? Boxing is not the be-all end-all. No grappling in boxing.

I still think Jones is just too big for the LHW class. His frame allows him to cut enough to make a comfortable weight cut. Basically in my opinion....and I know Sherdog HATES opinions, but Jon Jones could be a top 5 HW and hes fighting in LHW class. Just is what it is.

Jones has skinny legs and makes LHW just find both Gus and Bigfoot were bigger then Jones. height don't matter that much in the LHW or HW

DC can beat Jones if the ref merely enforces the actual rules
