Less explosive post USADA Cyborg not a quick finisher and dominant fighter like Ronda before Holm. Are people going to order her fights to see her co-main or main event? Sure she stalks her opponent and finishes them off later in most cases other than yesterday but this isn't prime Mike Tyson level of destruction or Ronda smoking her opponents in less than 2 minutes.

No. There's a very specific set of reasons casuals tune in to wmma fights. Cyborg is void of the main one.

This is how she used to look pre-steroids. I have a hard time accepting almost anything she does as being legit. That might be really harsh, but the physical transformation is reminiscent of old school East German athletes. See below.

If you care about the integrity of the sport, you can't ignore that.

If she keeps performing like that in a year or two i see her selling 750k - 1m when she headlines.

Someone actually was telling me last night WMMA is more popular than people think. I still think without Ronda you wont see anymore huge PPV buyrates with women headliners. Nunes vs Shevchenko 2 had a buy rate half the buy rate of Bellators PPV. 100k-150k I believe

she can if they can actually start finding legit 145ers

I think Cyborg is the only womens champ that hasn't become a complete bitch after being a dominant champion. Ronda, then Joanna became "THE BOOGEY WOMAN" (and SHE talks about Rose's mental state) blames her loss on everything/everyone but herself, she never tapped either....

Cyborg has stayed respectful, does that sell or does the bitch attitude sell?

Who would you say were the main Rousey fans, as in demographics? Young women?

Possibly, but my sister is in her late 30's and she wasnt an MMA fan until Ronda became known. She was a media sensation, the first legit woman's Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sly Stallone from the 80's the guys looked up to. She was in movies, on every show, Ellen, Saturday Night Live etc. Even PVZ brought non fight fans to UFC after Dancing with the stars and she wasnt champion.

Cyborg fought a counter puncher runner and won a decision - exactly as I predicted. The same person destroyed ronda; "Dominant fighter like ronda before Holm" and fighter like ronda after being crushed by Holm and Nunes are in fact the same fighter. George Foreman, Mike Tyson, lightweight Roberto Duran didn't ko everyone in their wins. What was exposed last night was the idea that Cyborg can only beat cans.

In a week we will know what her ppv pull really is. Holly was as good of a name opponent as she will likely have. No one else on the card had ppv appeal; this is all on Cyborg, and I'm not sure that it wasn't planned that way. I think we are looking at something really low under 300k.

She’s certainly going to get a chance to sell them...don’t know if fans will buy in.

UFC is in the cyborg business for the foreseeable future

Cheers.

I know she was in that film with Stallone and Entourage, but that's it as far as my knowledge of her movie career goes. I'm sure we get the chat shows over here and it gives her exposure in the States, though it always surprised me she was as popular as she was in the States and if she was seen as this 'figure head' for the nu age of Girl Power, that's the only reason I could think of girls like you sister starting to watch the sport. An MMA fighter doesn't really feel like it's the fit for girls to look up to or maybe it is/was.

I never really thought Rousey was as bad as some folk on here made her out to be - I thought when she refused to shake Tate's hand after their 2nd fight was a bit catty, but I think a lot of the dislike for her was just people wanting to see her knocked off her perch. I always thought she spoke well enough and her pre fight talk was nothing 'worse' than '.....after I beat this chick' Lots of fighters say the same along those lines.

Cyborg seems like she has about 50 PR people behind her with her CyborgNation stuff, wearing a Hijab and I think she has this sense of entitlement about her, but something about her being caught once for PEDs rubs me the wrong way - as it does with any fighter. She's definitely more exciting to watch, imo, but her options seem limited as to who she fights at 145.

A lot of people saw the ultimate fighter with her and saw the light

Cyborg is a great WMMA fighter, but beating Holm at this point doesn't add much, considering Holm was 1-3 in the last two years, her only win over a fighter who was herself 1-1-2 in her last four fights before Holm.

Really, there's no way someone with Holm's recent record should even have been given a title shot. Its certainly not a significant victory. And I say that as someone who thinks Cyborg is the WMMA GOAT.

Even so, how many fighters actually sell more than this, especially on a fairly shallow card like 219?
