It seems like neither of them would've wanted this fight, definitely not their ideal situation at all. Have they commented publicly at all?
If not...
Why do we think they signed for this fight? Stay in shape? Money? A chance at a title? Were they given an ultimatum by the UFC telling them if they don't take this fight neither of them will fight for the title again?

Dana probably greased their palms with extra $$$$, so neither one is gonna show their TRUE feelings!

Everyone wants in on 200 for the cash. And the fact that they made it for a belt makes people tune in even more. More views is more money.

they think that they can win a big payday, fighting connor afterward

What would you expect them to say? Dana and Lorenzo probably called them and said they better fight each other and take one out of the title-contention equation or the UFC would just screw them both and promote Holloway n1 contender. And maybe even let McGregor get as many fights outside the divisions as it pleased him while they sitted on the sidelines.

Fight needed to be made, especially in light of the fact that Conor-Diaz 2 was announced. They'll keep busy, get a shot at gold, get paid & fight on the biggest UFC card ever and then some. I'd imagine they'll use these & more reasons to be positive about their situations.

I think this was the best choice they have if either one of them wants to fight Conor. Without this fight you could make a strong case for Holloways title shot aswell.
But to be honest here, i think one of them will fight Holloway anyway but what remains a mystery is that will it be for the title or not. Because the only scenarios are pretty much that loser fights Holloway when Conor goes back to FW, or a winner fights Holloway for the title when Conor vacates the belt.
