Calling BS on Penn & teller BS: bible

What's the point in putting all this effort into a thread like this? It's just going to get erased like your last one.

That's a lot of work. I hope someone reads it.

I loved the bottled water and organic foods episodes.

3) Penn says in genesis there are two account of the creation of man so it must all be wrong
-again multiple authors from thousands of years ago writing theological creation story

stopped reading here when I realized you just disproved the credibility of the bible while actually trying to disprove Penn lol

1) penn tries to take genesis literally. NO ONE who is respected on bible studies takes Genesis literally. It is the tale of the creation of the universe in theological terms. It is not a science book. Science did not exist until about the 16th century.

No one says it's a science book. It is, however, a story, and one that the writers believed to be true. It is false.

2) penn takes Exodos literally. PRO guy says there is no proof that israelites were in egypt was there or that the Red Sea could part.

Penn is correct. The Exodus is another Bible story we know to be false.

- egypt did not record losses

Apparently archaeology doesn't either.

- is hyklos the israelites?

No. The Hyskos were an invading tribe who the Egyptians had to drive OUT, not a domestic group of slaves the Egyptians had to chase to keep IN.

- The Merneptah Stele—also known as the Israel Stele or Victory Stele of Merneptah—is an inscription by the Ancient Egyptian king Merneptah (reign: 1213 to 1203 BC) which says "Israel is laid waste"

The Stele indicates Israel was a foreign culture and associates them with other groups of Canaanites; which is exactly what the rest of archaeology tells us: the Israelites were a Canaanite offshoot, not an Egyptian slave faction that escape and moved into Canaan.

6) PRO talks about Appollonius who did many things that jesus did
--um, who the fuck came first?

Dying-and-rising gods were commonplace in that day. Jesus was not original.

7) PRO says all of jesus miracles were magic trick that penn and teller could do
but then P and T do not do them to prove a point
- P and T do not do them in front of huge crowds in 1st century israel
- P and T do not do them with 12 disciples following them around AND THEN being MARTYRED due to their belief in them

Jesus didn't do those either.

8) Penn goes into the brutal stoning as punishment for being gay or getting uppidity with your parent
- penn is living in the current world!!!
- life in OT times was brutal. slavery was a fucking GIVEN
- the rules in leviticus were brutal because god was setting aside rules for his people and giving them land. even with brutal death GOD still spent centuries banging monotheism into their heads.
-it was brutal following of rules or they would have not lasted...period
-like a child, you treat a child differently when he is a baby vs a teenager

Absurd arguments. God had to promote slavery because everyone else around there was? I didn't know God was so weak to peer pressure (or underling pressure, as it be).

I'm not sure how killing your citizens for minor crimes makes your society stronger.

9) PRO admits that Jesus probably existed and was crucified and has 2 historical accounts of him existing, but also says no proof of resurrection AND that science could NEVER prove or disprove that. also said messiahs were a dime a dozen
- jesus performed miracles to show who he was
- he was resurrected. proof??? why is jesus remembered and the other "messiahs" were not? When all these cult leader die, then their cult dies

Strange. Mohammad died and his religion kept going. Siddhartha died and his religion kept going. Joseph Smith died and his religion kept going. It doesn't seem like a religious leader dying is really that big of an obstacle.

Then why did ALL the original disciples chose to be MARTYRED instead of renouncing jesus????

...they didn't.

Exodus is just a cover up, i remember reading or watching somewhere where they said that the exodus was only a large group of thieves that escaped after stealing gold

This is one of the very rare times I will comment on a topic without having read it in it's entirety, but it was very long and could not change my opinion on the show in the slightest.

Bullshit is a sensationalist show that cannot be taken seriously on any topic. They ridicule for fun and profit, and do not even pretend to be impartial. Some times it's fun, most of the time it's dull and stupid.

I have not seen this episode, but I can pretty much guess how it played out.

Don't take them seriously, not many do.

Sorry, warrior poet. The Bible happened "off camera" so I can't believe it. Or something like that.

I stopped at science didn't exist until the 16th century.

Did they molest you?

You seem to have a whole lot of aggression built up for them.
