Cain could've/should've been a goat

Even if his body had held up, his poor striking defense was always an issue.

That's why he could only prevail against grapplers and mediocre strikers like Junior Dos Santos and Cheick Kongo.

Cain was amazing, an absolute avalanche of offense, but the style he crafted was almost guaranteed to implode his body sooner than later. It's like that poem —

My candle burns at both ends,
It will not last the night,
But ah, my foes and oh, my friends
It gives a lovely light.

I agree the best version of Cain is probably the GOAT fighter. He had a REALLY high but short peak.

However, I don't really agree with the argument "if only his body hasn't failed him...". The reason his body failed him (crazy hard training methods) is what made that peak so high.

One of my all time favourites. When he was fit and healthy he was the one of the best HW’s of his generation. So many injuries ruined his career unfortunately.

Obviously I don't have Cain as HW GOAT but I might favour prime Cain over anyone else in a single fight (not career, just a 1 time fight). Prime Cain might've been the best HW we've ever seen

Cain objectively was one of the most effective heavyweights ever.

Cant soley blame his fight style on injuries. Some of the quad extensions and kettle bell swing videos prove he had some serious idiots around him when it came to strength and conditioning.

Name a HW that moved like him, wrestled like him, kept his pace and had that dynamic striking. There aren't many that's for sure.

In a heavyweight title eliminator at UFC 110, Cain showed Big Nog (age 33) that there are levels to MMA and he should have stuck with the more primitive form in a roped square in Japan.

Way to be a POS and try and tarnish bogs legacy. Mileage is a factor. Nog was on a very clear decline at this point. Watch the sergie fight vs the fights in ufc

He was injured too often to truly claim any GOAT status. Amazing fighter with great skills but didn't do enough to warrant it.

Cain was a favorite of mine in his prime and was the best HW until Stipe took over. I still enjoy rewatching his JDS maulings and the Brock destruction from time to time.

I think Cain is a perfect example of the problem with goat arguments and how people define it. Do you take it to mean, of all fighters' full careers, is his the greatest? Or is his fighting ability the greatest of all time? Do you use career longevity and achievements as THE criteria, or as a shortcut piece of evidence to give 'ability' some level of objectivity?

Cain, at his best, looked incredibly unstoppable, save for an errant HW Haymaker in the right spot. But his best didn't stick around that consistently. Damn shame, that. Really think he'd have had the easiest time out of all candidates to stamp himself as greatest UFC HW. Simply wasn't meant to be

Cardio Cain is one of my all time favorites. I'll never forget how he cucked Lesnar. He was a fucking beast.

He doesn't have a GOAT Carrer but Yes he's a Amazing fighter, Even if I Think Werdum can beat any version of Cain.

I think Cain is leagues above Fabricio he just didn't adapt to the altitude and untypically gassed out in 2 rounds. Before that ue was a cardio machine.

I agree ts Cain is one of the goats while he was in his prime and uninjured. However Francis has a high chance of beating him at any point given that Cain fights open and offensive and Francis just needs 3 good punches. Cain also got rocked multiple times vs Congo and caught by JDS in the first fight.

Without injuries, he very well may have. He had all the tools to do it but couldn’t stay healthy.

lol so he got milage from fighting pro wrestlers in japan
u mean a ton of damage fighting them?
that means alot when fighting cans

no wonder a bike injured out of prime mir beat him 2x at his own game
sometimes people really cant accept the fact

With all Cain's legal stuff going on I decided to binge his UFC fights on fightpass. Honestly before this I probably only saw 2 or 3 of his fights cause I was still new to the sport. But after watching all of his major fights last night I can honestly say cain could have been the greatest ever if his body didn't fall apart. I Don't think I ever seen a heavyweight fighter as relentless as Cain. His conditioning and pace were just unreal for that division and he could just melt guys down no matter how big they were. His fights with JDS were just unreal and that version of Cain beats any HW ever. Kinda sad that he's a footnote now and rarely if ever gets mentioned in goat discussions. But his abilities and performances speak for themselves, at his best he was as good as anyone.

I would agree that Prime for Prime, I would favor Cain over anyone in Heavyweight history...

But who the fuck am I ?

GOAT... Not by the current measuring sticks. Injuries just ... well crippled his career.

A great Champion and also an enigma of could have, would have..
