Bye Sherdog.

See join date? Been a while... I must be one of the oldest members in this forum. Opened an account when I was in high school, when Fedor was on the rise and Wandy was the most feared man im the sport. I'm 41 now.

Lately, I've lost interest in MMA. I quite dislike what the UFC has become.

And I have been pretty terribly treated by forum mods/admin recently.

So, goodbye it is. Have a good one champs.
Sherdog is dying.

Mods are the reason. The decrease in traffic and accounts is their fault

Ufc is another reason.

I'm 60.
I like watching the fights.
UFC puts on a lot of good fights every year.
It is the dream of every semi-pro mma fighter to get a ufc contract.

Yer a fucking whiner.
Prolly cheetoh eater.
And ghey.

Fuck off.
Nobody gives a fuck if you stay or go.

Bitch.

Amazing how many of these "goodbye" threads Ive seen. Other than people who have died, they always come back.

Its not ESPN...its Endeavor and other factors. They are here to inflate this promotion as much as possible to maximize its net worth and profit for the short time and then dump it when they feel its on the verge of bubbling. They also see value in prioritizing the beyond rather than marketing fighters, which allows them to rely on good ratings despite shit cards.

Beyond that, if you are dying for American talent, its pretty much going the way of the dinosaur...the sport doesnt pay enough for real talent to get into MMA from parts of the western world. While in other parts 20k USD is a middle class annual income lmao. Theyre making a relative fortune in Brazil, Central Asia, Russia and even places like Oceania the dollar goes a good ways. Youre seeing that prospects from the US, Canada etc. Are consistently 5+ years behind.

MMA is in a weird spot. I definitely watch more boxing and look forward to more boxing than UFC cards these days. Paddy Pimblett vs Gaethje? Nah, Im here for Shakur vs Teo. The UFC really doesnt sign the best fighters anymore and is terrified of losing proven commodities so you have guys like Gaethje getting his 4th title shot.
Who knows? Supposedly the UFC was chasing PPV with ESPN and was putting out dog shit. Now they officially aren't selling any fights atleast in the US. But maybe now on Paramount normies who pay 10$/month for football, who were put off by the 100$/month for UFC, will give it a second chance and it can build a much wider audience. We didn't exactly see that with the DAZN model though.

Speaking of boxing. You got Fury, Usyk, AJ, Tank, Crawford, Spence, Bivol, Beterbiev, Garcia basically on ice sitting around for 1 fight a year or worse. Then even Canelo is out until the end of 2026. The clown show with Jake Paul is on pause with a broken jaw now. Inoue is a monster, but he barely has names to take and you can't expect him to go up too high. Shakur is boring as sin, but still good fighter.

I'd say without new rising stars, boxing is in a bad spot too because the names are wearing thin and out soon. I'm sort of a casual with it, but pretty consistently watch notable cards. From what I've seen I hope the UFC does the opposite of what's going on with boxing, because throwing money at the big stars seems to make them fight cans or fight once a year. Maybe you know a bunch of names coming up, but I'm on a casual radar.

I have not watched much in recent years and will be tuning in now that the product is available under one price tag that palatable. Sure we could stream it before but who wants to wrestle with a stream during a main event, total buzzkill
True, I did that for awhile, eventually just settling for paying IPTV subscription which got me through. I think if done correctly it'll open the UFC to a whole new audience that was never going to fidget with the streams and tuned out before. All major sports don't charge 100$/month to follow the top matches. Still, they are going to have to find a Conor or something to suck casuals in if they want growth, putting on Apex slop is going to turn everyone away.

As someone trying to make a comeback after a bit of a break - what’s the deal is it just matchup bullshit?
Yeah, mostly matchups BS.
You have matchups like Volk vs Lopes 2, a fight nobody but Lopes asked for, while you have tons of other guys more deserving.
You have O'Malley getting immediate rematch after not winning a fight while you have some guys like Evloev or Murphy on a 37 fight win streak but they apparently don't deserve shit yet. Stuff like that makes it my top reason for losing interest.

You have guys being shelved not getting the TS because they are not loud enough on X.

You have guys being cut while still in top 15 and not losing last fight.

You have bunch of cans being signed from Contender series. The roster is bloated with average fighters. Not too many real stars anymore (there are there still like Poatan but not too many).

You have Dana fucking White being checked out a bit, promoting idiotic Power Slap or boxing. Not promoting his own fighters at all.

You have the goof not giving fans the fights they want to see, despite always saying the UFC gives the fans the fights they want to see.

You have the goof doing less media than before, there are less fun conferences too it seems like.

You have goof allowing Tom with the interim belt defending the belt while Jon was around already I believe. Absolute joke.
The goof waiting 2 years to strip Jon because he likes to have him around to suck him off I'm guessing.

You have champs winning the belt and not defending and wanting to be double champs instead of focusing on cleaning out the division first.

You have the goof giving Nelk boys 250k dollars as a gift while giving his fighters absolute peanuts and them having no long term real health insurance etc., the fighters are independent contractors, but have like 0 freedom.

You have horrible ref decisions going unpunished, horrible judging going unpunished, refs allowing eye pokes and nut shots even though the warning has already been given in the locker room. "I know it wasn't intentional" even if the guy sprinted a kick the other dude's balls full speed like a soccer ball in the first 5 seconds of the fight.

You have some really bad cards, horrible headliners, more than a half of the card sometimes filled with fighters I've never heard of + sometimes too many women fights (sorry Ares) that are just not high level at all. I don't mind high level WMMA but mostly it's just horrible.

You have ranking squatters, fighters that don't fight but somehow are still ranked. You have rankings that don't actually matter at all for matchmakers either.

I just want the best fighters fighting the best, regardless of whether a contender is regarded as boring and regardless if they have 37 followers on X.

Stuff like that :)

And as much as he might hate it, Sean O’Malley is not Conor 2.0 lmao

Hopefully the sport gets going with Paramount, might be a turning point from the ESPN slop
