Buying a new TV in 2024. What's good?

OLEDs are superior when it comes to picture quality though these screens might be a little expensive. If your pocket is not deep but you want quality, it’s safer to go for LED TV that at least supports a 4K resolution. It is the new benchmark in get sharp and quality picture. Another is HDR – this makes the colors stand out, and provides more contrast. Don’t forget that other features of smart TV–in other words, it makes it possible to watch Netflix, YouTube and much more without other means
Best Buy has some great deals going on right now. I got a 77” OLED with 120hz refresh rate for $2500. That in itself isn’t all that great except I was able to finance it through them for zero interest for 18 months, which is a fantastic deal.

I don't think plasma tv's are even made anymore.

I've been buying Sony tellys since the 80s and never had one go bad.
They don’t make plasmas anymore, correct. The one Sony I have has lasted 10 years now. It still gets great picture. My only beef with it is the Android OS on it is now so slow and unresponsive that it is really difficult to use the tv. Many of the streaming apps often don’t work, the stream just halts for seconds at a time.
They just updated the OS one day and broke it. And then they never deployed an update to fix it.

I fully support the LG OLED advice.

I bought a LG C2 and it looks amazing. Best TV I have ever owned.

Samsung S90D OLED is a good make sure it's the size with the QD tech because not all sizes are, it's as good as OLED's come for that price bracket but it's also a bright screen which was usually a draw back of older OLED's

I currently have a Sony Bravia but don't stream or connect to the internet or anything. My guess is Sony won't update because they want people to buy a new Sony. I recently bought a new sound system for mine and it's working out thus far.

Try them out. Sales people are pretty good these days.

Be sure to test out the remote for the tv. Some like all the bells and whistles on their remotes. I prefer the simplicity of a roku style remote. So I can hit mute even in the dark.

Oh, and to simplify further. Figure out your budget first. Then the remote. Then whether you want it mounted. If so, you can have a fixed mount or one that's adjustable according to the room you are in. Highly recommended as well.

Nearly anything you get now is gonna kick ass. Like the LG Oled mentioned often or any of the ones mentioned above.

Also worth keeping in mind if you're on the store floor, the differences are really only apparent when you're comparing side by side. So if you buy a cheaper TV, you probably won't ever notice the differences in your actual use.

Just get something super cheap, most folks are on their phones all day and a 65” is like 400? If you’re a stickler for image quality, you can spend thousands for a little better.
