Butterbean did pretty ok in Pride fc

I got to meet him after he knocked out James Thompson in the UK... Really chill guy.

I'll go to my grave claiming it was a terrible stoppage, the "powerful overhand right" didn't even connect, James just tripped while dashing backward!
! Robbery!
Fight Fixing!
Immediate rematch?

Anyone remembers why JT was pissed at Butterbean like a couple day before the fight? He released a Youtube video in which he did the Colossus Pump© and warned Butterbean against talking shit behind someone's back after having been super nice face-to-face.

Some thought it was just to hype the fight, but others pointed out that The Colossus never did that before, and was always a good sport, and in the end nothing was solved.

Those youtube callouts were pretty cool, remember Giant Silva vs Akebono?
"Yo Akebono I hope you come in ready, because Giant Silva IS TRAINING HAAAAAARD *flexes*"

Poor JT also got screwed over against Kimbo Slice, that was another sad moment as an OG Colossus Warwagon member <mma1>

He’s a specimen to be sure, to do as well as he did in cardio based sports looking the way he did. Makes you wonder how jacked he would’ve been if he got on roids and a good diet. Also with his build and lack of neck, he would’ve dominated in this new power slap thing.
That's a good point on the power slap.
Also, TS a chubby chaser, like Frodo fans.
At least this thread is better than:
"Little Chubby Frodo best goat heavyweight subhuman ever".

Boxers need to spend a few years training the ground before they can do much in MMA; they are otherwise mediocre to bad.

Will the day come in this lifetime when an elite boxer trains the ground and fights MMA? Probably not.

Butterbean did OK for an old fat man.

Didn't Thompson slap Dan Mirragliatta in the face after that?

Stoppage by exploding ear? Right?

But Thompson had dozens on unanswered strikes of Kimbo before that and no stoppage? Am I remembering correctly? It's been a while.

His fight vs Bart Gunn was legendary.

Oh man, that brawl for all tournament was a botch. Pretty sure it was meant to put over Dr. Death, but Bart Gunn whooped him ruining those plans.. Only to get his lunch money stolen by Butterbean at the end.

Neat concept though, and it definitely went down in history. Truly legendary in my book.

His KO of Struve was brutal.

You must watch a lot of dvds

Butterbean wasn't a total freakshow. He did have legit threat and it did seem like he took mma seriously to train something. Better than many other giants in pride who looked like they never trained at all.

Butterbean was awesome, I saw him fight live when he was the IBA HW champion, he was like 62-1 or something like that at that time, he has huge power and also a chin from God. I was a few rows back and yeah he could seriously punch!! the thud sound was intense, every time he threw you could hear this terrible thud noise. I'm certain that he could lay anyone out cold if he landed flush

When I saw him fight live he was 385 Ibs and he did not even have sweat on him at the end, forget about gassing, he didn't even have a drop of sweat on him, and the guy he was fighting was like 225 Ibs and very lean and he looked like death at the end, he got dropped hard and was laid out

That is pretty damn impressive actually. I always knew he had a relatively respectable MMA career at least compared to other boxers who tried to dabble in it. He must have actually took us serious and tried to learn some shit. Crazy that he has a submission on his record.

How did his cardio hold up does anyone remember? And did he fight any legit grapplers?
