Media Burns Verbally Agrees to Fight Khamzat

if khamat doesn't accept hes ducking burns

"accept"

he has already called out Burns and this was Burns accepting

all is left to do is for Ali to allow and the UFC to send the papers

that said, my hope is that Leon Edwards doesn't bitch out and takes on Khamzat on 11 dec

At this point I'm not sure who I would rather see Khamzat throw down with..... Leon or Burns. I guess whoever gets him to the title faster.
IMO Burns is more skilled then Edwards and would probably beat him if they fought. Gilbert is higher ranked as well. The part I love about this is Leon being silent. The longer he waits the better chance this fight gets made and he loses his title shot. So he either takes a fight he has a good chance of losing or lose his title shot anyways. His twitter speaks volumes. Instead of agreeing to fight any of the three volunteering (2 because Belal does nothing if he fights him again) he retweets this...

And before that instead of saying he'll fight anyone he dismisses a replacement and puts this:

One thing is missing from the list in the first pic

And it's that Leon went out on Twitter after Usman beat Woodley and said "I am ready when you are champ"
About two weeks later he was offered a title fight against Usman but declined it, not citing any concrete reasons (And no there were zero covid implications in this decision) - My guess, Usman wanted it earlier then he wanted it

Whoever Khamzat fights I hope its someone in the top 10 and in December.

i might be wrong but didnt leon turn down wonderman?

It's funny and says a lot about Khamzat's hype/skill/potential in that everyone is praising Burns for maybe accepting a fight against a non-top 10 opponent, considering how much criticism fighters receive for fighting unranked opponents. People are completely glossing over the fact that Khamzat just called out 3 top 10 (2 top 5) fighters.

Khamzat isn't low reward. He's already a huge name and star. He's far more popular than Burns already.
For sure, but there is also one more thing that Burns should be thinking about: If he wins Dana will add him to the list of "not my friend" for derailing his biggest hype train :p

Leon Edwards sucks so much.
Thank God for fighters like Khamzat, Burns, etc otherwise division would be stuck.

Gonna laugh so hard when Leon doesn't get his title shot because of this.

So what I mean by low reward is that A win over hazmat does very little for burns, but a win over burns puts hazmat in title contention.
Burns may become a bit more popular if he wins, but If he loses, he will become the laughing stock of the internets, he will be called a bum and a has been, he will be accused of being flash in the pan, does not belong at 170, and some will claim he was given stylistically favorable matches until hazmat.

If burns wins, people will say Hazmat was still green, hazmat was not in his prime, he was recovering from COVID, it was a mismatch to have a top 5 guy fight someone out of top 10..

there is very little to gain for Burns, but again, props to him for taking this hazardous, low reward (ranking wise) fight.
Burns will only be a laughing stock if Khamzat ends up getting destroyed by Usman. But if Khamzat can beat Burns, it just shows that Khamzat is championship material because the only person at WW who has beaten Burns is Usman. And in that fight Burns hurt Usman.

I think the respect for Burns would go up even if he loses because he's fighting someone no one really wants to fight, and he's fighting someone ranked far below him.

Beating Khamzat gives Burns more recognition (which is a big thing in MMA)
Beating Burns gives Khamzat a higher rank.

It's high risk high reward scenario just like with Khamzat vs Leon

You're making way too much stuff up in your head about what irrelevant people are going to say.

“As far as Wonderboy, he got knocked out like a fight ago,” Edwards said. “[Anthony] Pettis knocked him out one fight ago. If I go out there right now and I fight Wonderboy and I beat Wonderboy the UFC will be like ‘let’s go one more in the top-five and then we’ll go for a title.’ They wouldn’t give me a title shot straight away. ...

“As far as Chimaev, he’s only had what one fight at welterweight against a lightweight guy?” Edwards said in reference to Chimaev’s win over Rhys McKee. “It’s hard to judge from that. When he’s calling me out, I don’t really pay attention. It is what it is. I don’t really pay attention too much. He has to at least beat somebody in the top-f**king-25 before you go straight to f**king fight No. 3,” Edwards said with a laugh. “At least fight somebody in the top-25 or -30 first."
