Top-seeded Ryan Burnett picked unseeded Nonito Donaire as his opponent Friday for the World Boxing Super Series’ bantamweight tournament.

Burnett made his selection as part of the of the WBSS “Draft Gala” at Rossiya Theatre in Moscow. Northern Ireland’s Burnett (19-0, 9 KOs) will defend his WBA “super” bantamweight title against Donaire (38-5, 24 KOs), a former four-division champion from San Leandro, California.

Second-seeded Naoya Inoue then chose unseeded Juan Carlos Payano as his foe in the quarterfinals. Japan’s Inoue (16-0, 14 KOs) is set to defend the WBA’s world bantamweight championship against the Dominican Republic’s Payano (20-1, 9 KOs).

The Donaire of a few years ago would've pasted Burnett, but this is a Nonito who likely isn't going to be what he was. Burnett should outbox Nonito relatively easily.

Payano is a good fighter, but I don't think he's at Inoue's level, and he won't have the power or strength to bully him around. I expect Inoue to stop him late.

dark horses

rodriguez will be a competitive match vs maloney
burnett will be tested vs donaire

aloyan, his pro record is nothing
but he's a former bronze medal olympian who beat yafai & raushee warren
maybe a tough fight for tete, althouhg i predict tete prob beat him with his size/reach, by lackluster dec

Where do you think the locations/venues the fights will take place? Also when is the WBSS going to announce the dates for each fight?

Inoue is my pick, the thudding noise his power punches make is scary for his size. For such an unassuming looking character he has some bad intentions.
