bullet proof vest recommendations

How do you stop it other than to install metal detectors in every workplace.

You don't. Humans will always be violent and there will always be guns. But murder rates are on an overall downward trajectory so something's going right.

Does your company run criminal background checks, and if so are you able to review them?

I think there are likely many other aspects of your life that pose an infinitely more plausible risk than you getting shot at work.

Spend the money on a defensive driving course or something

This is a legit question so please let's not get into name calling and ranting.
Are the States really so dangerous that you need to carry guns and wear body armour to work? And if it is, why do you live there? I can't understand how this question was so casually accepted

I've lived in the UK, Canada, been to north Africa, Asia, middle east, so i've been around, but I've never thought I needed to wear body armour and carry a pistol. I've been in sketchy spots and fist fights, but if I had to think about carrying a gun everyday and wearing body armour to go get groceries, fuck that I'm leaving.
Is this just a little bit of paranoia or is the USA in such a shitty state?
Again this is a real question, thanks

I don't feel like I need to wear body armor or carry a gun every day.

But in my line of work sometimes you fire people and they get really mad, those are the times where I feel a little vulnerable. There's probably a 99 percent chance that nothing happens, but that's probably what those people thought in that Illinois shooting last week. I'm sure they all felt safe enough and now they're dead.

So no, I personally don't feel like the US is so dangerous that you feel the need to carry a gun with you at all times, but my job makes me a target of people's anger, and the one thing that does suck is that anyone can get a gun here, no matter how angry or crazy.

So I'd like to protect myself when firing people.

If you're a normal guy with a normal job that doesn't make you a target, then you're much safer.

You are in a job that involves firing people sometimes, and you think that is not normal and warrants a protective vest? Okie dokie

What area of work has that much of a threat from employees? I don't understand how the threat of being shot is so accepted outside of a third world country.

A lot of bouncers wear at least knife resistant stuff.

People get really angry over being fired. It's a life changing event.

Being a target for murder, I think the hierarchy would be:

1. Relationship drama (divorce, etc)
2. Boss that fired an unstable person
3. Idiot neighbor

This is excluding people involved in crime, who are always targets due to drug wars and stuff like that.
