Is a work in progress. At this current juncture its cringe inducing. Something about seeing Buchecha lose (to Roger, when Leandro Lo died) just makes me feel for the guy. that sajd, his current skillset is reminiscent of some out of touch 90's Gracie BJJ applogist who recommends gi training for mma.

Hopefully he doesnt get shit canned. There is some up.side; to borrow a wrestling term, it looks like he's scared to put the meat in the taco (if thats the correct context) when that milli second comes where one needs to commit to a move by close the distance, exploding, gripping, biting down on the mouth piece, etc he's not doing it. No taco. But up until that point his wrestling technique looks beautiful. Entries, changing direction, head placement. Cardio is an issue too. Having world class toughness is such a better attribute than having world class technique.

Imo he could've gotten a sub there if Kennedy wasn't the dirtiest fighter to ever live.

Big Nog showed the world that you dont have to be a multiple time bjj tournament champ to learn how to use bjj effectively in mma.

The problem is fighters have adapted and bucheicha isnt really bringing anything new that fighters havnt been defending against for years now. His poor decision making in the octagon results in using his gastank inefectively going for low prob submissions without good setups.

He needs to gameplan a lot better.

Yes, he didn't adapt to MMA basically

Why do BJJ champs hate GnP? But high school wrestlers with BJJ blue to purple belts thrive off it?? I can't believe how averse to violence Buchecha and Viera looked

We've seen it too many times to count. Accolades are largely insignificant when we're talking late jumps to mma.

Yoel was a major exception

He can come to OKC, I'll help him earn that Venum fight kit
Send him to any local high school so we can brush up on those takedowns lol

Will always love Maia for his deep half to back take approach to getting opponents where he wants them.

There's a freaking Walker brother winning every fight by leg lock, nowhere near the accolades Buchecha has, but at least he actually wins using jiu-jitsu

Maybe, maybe. Kennedy whats-his-face did his best to stop the takedowns with ”finding his range” with the lead hand with extended fingers as close to Buchechas face as possible and grabbing the fence…

I don’t know how Buchecha lost full back control at least twice. Looked so easy. I’ve seen plenty of lesser grapplers keep that position and keep attacking from there… Weird. The GNP in the second round was great, though! Smashes Kennedy with elbows and some solid shots to the face.

He's a pure throwback BJJ HW and that shit simply doesn't wash nowadays and hasn't for a while. He'll be cut after his next fight, which he'll definitely lose. I don't fancy his chances against 99% of the division.

Big, fat, slow BJJ HW's usually gravitate towards striking for a reason.

It's been a minute since Werdum and Big Nog were at the top of the sport and man were they exceptions to the rule in terms of BJJ HW success.

Bro's BJJ is white belt level. He was absolutely clueless on the mat and it's not like Kenny is great there either.
buchecha's bjj is white belt level and he's clueless on the mat. got it... how's steph curry at basketball?

can't teach an old dog new tricks. chances are he won't last long in the ufc. legendary bjj but very poor mma takedowns and set ups. not a good formula for a ground fighter.

Curry is good at basketball.

Buchecha is a bum at BJJ. It doesn't matter that this was in MMA. The guy had Kenney's back and was all surprised when Kenny just stood up because Buchecha didn't seem to know that he had to at least put hooks in instead of just doing absolutely nothing.

The guy spent the whole fight in situations that were purely BJJ and didn't demonstrate any BJJ skills at all, only white belt mistakes.

Dude is shit at BJJ.
