Pride 21

Any Hardcore should right away know which fight i'm talking about!

Nope...not talking about Renzo Gracie spitting in Shungo Oyamas face:

Also not Anderson Silva's Pride debute, where he kicked a whole into Stiebling's head...

Or Bob Sapp's Pride debut against poor Tamura:

Kiyoshi scored exactly 1 lowkick and 1 punch...and getting stopped in under 20 seconds...

Its this one right here:
This is not the full fight (i hope i'm not getting into trouble for this...but its not a whole fight...it is clipped together)...but clipped or not it doesn't matter...it was action, awesomeness, brutallity all in together from start to finish

Takayama was a huge pro wrestling star at the time and Frye also did alot of pro-wrestling in Japan at that very time...but those weren't worked punches guys...
Also, guess who was sitting not in the 1. row...he was sitting before it...like a fucking G?
Well, of course...
Mr Forever Young At Haert!
Hiromichi Momose (who was at like every Pride Event, before the takeover)...right next to him: his buddy Antonio Inoki (who held a high position in Pride at the time and i think he was still in Office as a politican) and on the other side: a crazy hot japanese chick with a nice tan, yelling, screaming and cheering for Takayama (the chick was).

Momose was having a great time during the fight and all the guys next to him too...if i would say i have a lot of doubts that those guys weren't tattoo'd up...i would be lying ;)

Info about Takayama aka the real Sexyama!:
Last year he botched a Sunset Flip and landed right on his head...and is now paralyzed from his neck down...no recovery expected...
Thats fucked up man!

Still, classic slugfest.

Nice. Back when Sapp didn't get "finished" in 20 seconds.

Frye/Takayama still might be the best 2 minutes in the history of MMA.

No way, that's fucking shitty man.

Not many people remember why Frye and Takayama fought. What's going on these days in the realm of sports? Yeah, the World Cup. Same 12 years ago, and the the World Cup was taking place in korea and Japan.

It was suicidal for Pride to go toe to toe with the World Cup playing at home. Even the UFC, then national not global, avoided it. PRIDE 21 wasn't selling shit. A flop of major dimensions that would put DSE in a bad spot. Something has to be done.

Enter Takayama.

A "Rassler", a tomato can, whatever; A DRAW. Against him, another very popular Gaijin pro-wrestler, one that happened that could fight for real. The Sūpā Arīna was sold out, and Frye vs Takayama beat the World Cup on TV ratings.

And that's the truth, the Japanese Pro-Wrestlers allowed us to have the GOAT of the fighting promotions. God bless them.

That's interesting, I never knew any of that. Good call by the Japanese, they gave us one of the best 2 minutes the sport has ever seen.

Heartbreaking to hear that Takayama got injured like that man, real sad shit.

Was all that effort worth ~10 likes or do you just like wasting time on mediocre threads
<{nope}>

Say what you want, but those Japanese pro wrestlers had massive fucking balls...Some of those guys had never even had MMA fights and they were willing to fight legends like Fedor, Frye, Cro Cop, etc...

There will never be another organization like Pride...I miss Japanese MMA from the 90s/2000's as well as K1, they easily had the best presentation out of any fight league out there. There was something real special about the shows from back then.

Heart breaking to hear what happened to Takayama, bless him.
