Bryan Caraway was at a cafe because he felt hungry. The small electrical pulses in his body were sending signals to his brain that he needed sustenance. That's how he ended up in the cafe. He had money and he ordered food to be prepared from the waiter. Of course the waiter is employed by the cafe with the agreement between him and the proprietor that he spend his time helping the customers in exchange for currency. Now back to the food that Bryan ordered. When the prepared food was brought to him, he felt that he would rather have the food than money. The proprietor would rather have the money than the prepared food (this idea was known by the waiter as it was relayed to him by the proprietor). So Bryan and the waiter exchanged the goods and the currency. Both parties were glad.
