Brock Lesnar was given a UFC title shot with a 2-1 MMA record. Would fans riot if something like that happened again?

When has fans rioted about anything?

I mean its not like we're going to quit watching.

You're asking who should have gotten a title shot over brock? When there was literally an Interim champion put on ice and made to defend his belt without gettting an undisputed matchup.
Also hoe can you gas up Herring as a big win while say Cain had only beaten a 9-1 O'Brian who himself had a UFC win over Herring.

Some sherbros will say to anything pretend brock earned that shit.

Anyways TS if there's another guy with millions of fans demanding it Dana will blow him to do it. So maybe jake paul if went to the ufc but also he kinda burned dana so he might not get brock treatment.
They didn't really put Nog on ice.

If you remember Randy was playing hardball with his negotiations so they booked Mir and Nog into filming a TUF season.

The OBrien fight was a stinker lay n pray match and Herrings first time in the cage.

Herring did actually look good after that, gave Nog a hell of a fight and nearly finished him when he dropped him with a head kick and then beat Kongo who himself was coming off a win over Crocop.

Was it in a worse place than UFC HW in 2026?
Fedor, Arlovski, Barnett, Sylvia and Rothwell were in Affliction.

Overeem, Cro Cop, Sergei and Hunt were in Dream.

Werdum was in an unsuccessful contract negotiation and would leave for Strikeforce after his next fight.

Gonzaga had just had a title shot.

Roy Nelson, Bigfoot Silva and Brett Rogers were in EliteXC.

Cain was 4-0 in MMA and 2-0 in the UFC. Better than Brock, but not by a lot given the quality of competition.

JDS was unknown and hadn't made his UFC debut when the title fight was signed.

Nog and Mir were filming TUF (back when that meant something), with the winner getting the next title shot.

Even if you look at LHW, Forrest was a new champ with no title defences.

On top of that, Couture was in a contract dispute with the UFC and reportedly only came back to fight in the UFC because it was a money fight against Lesnar.

So yes, the UFC HW division today looks like Pride 2005 compared to what it was then.

(Not that Lesnar deserved the title shot on purely sporting grounds, but given the circumstances I don't blame the UFC in the slightest for booking that fight.)

He decisioned Herring and got a title shot. Imagine he actually had to fight a couple more like Kongo and others?

He would have beaten Kongo easy. Herring beat Kongo by outwrestling him imagine what Lesnar would do.

No?

Give me a jacked up 6'5 - 285lbs monster who was a NCAA wreslting champ for a title shot tommorow.

Yes, he was 2-1,
the 1 being Vs a former UFC champ...

Also, pretty sure they were right because he FCKNG WON...

09' Brock would easily be one of the best MMA HW on the planet today.
Brock Lesnar was a bum with a ridiculous record of 6-3

If he wasn't a famous wwe star he woulnd't get close to the belt

Brock went in with his prior wrestling experience and made a whole bunch of lifelong martial artists look like they didn’t belong there with him. If Brock was fake, he wouldn’t have pulled off what he pulled off. He got opportunities because of his fame and athletic prowess. There simply aren’t many humans like Brock which is why his title shot was even doable for him.
If there were new Bruce Lee like actor who got really huge being typecast into action/martial arts films and he decided to take a fight I almost guarantee Dana would give the guy a UFC opportunity (not a career)
You okay? You're responding to a point I never made. 😂

Agree about Herring. He was obviously on the downside of his career and had, I believe, 13 losses at this point and retired after two more losses.

He retired after that fight he came back 8 years later because he wanted another paycheck.

Yeah. I mean, he was a legit win win Fedor beat him but that is because he had just lost to Nog and was legitimately considered the #1 contender. Fedor was the underdog going into his fight with Herring. And his fight with Nog. Things revisionists always seem to ignore.

Pereira got a title shot at 6-1 off of the strength of beating Izzy in a different sport.
If the fighter gets enough hype around them the fans won't care

A lot of purists were up in arms about his arrival and fast track. But he proved pretty quickly that he wasn't an easy out and obviously his name and stature drew a lot of new interest and cross-over fans (ugh). HW has historically always been thin, with no blueprint for title shot lines or requirements.

Would imagine it to be less concerning today, given that the division is a fucking shadow of what it was back then.
