Broadway Shows:Anyone ever been to one?

I go to theatre shows all the time. Just saw My Fair Lady last week. Les Miz is good on just about any stage.

Same here. I basically went because my wife wanted to see it. I think I liked it more than she did.

Anyone who thinks a broadway show is boring should really consider going to one before making that assumption.
I watched Miss Saigon and that was boring. Close to 3 hours long, I just wanted it to end.

That sucks. Im sure there are some boring ones out there, but I would bet most of them are really good. If you ever go again I strongly recommend Wicked.

I went to see The Book of Mormon last month. I thought it was hilarious. I've also been to Wicked and The Addams Family with my wife, but I enjoyed The Book of Mormon way more.

My problem with theater is the overacting and the fruity male voices.
Agreed. I don't really get why they can't just have normal dialogue when they're not singing.

I have seen Les Miz, and Phantom of the Opera, and Rockettes christmas spectacular during the Nineties, when NYC still had some edge. I want to see another, but am not sure which one.

I dont want to see Jersey Boyz, because I cannot stand that falsetto voice. I dont want to watch Wicked because it just a silly premise. I dont watch to see Rock of Ages because I am afraid it will ruin some of my favorites 80s tunes for me. I dont know what else I can watch.

What do you think is silly about the premie?

It is like a prequel to the Wiz of Oz. Why do they have to keep doing a new take on an old story?

It is a prequal that totally undermines what people think of The Wizard of OZ. Not to be such a spoiler, but wicked shows that the Wicked witch is not so wicked after all, Dorothy was basically a pawn and had very little significance.

And you know how the Wicked Witch dies in the WIzard of OZ, well she does not really die.

It is a prequal in the sense that it takes place pre The Wizard of OZ, but the show leads into The Wizard of OZ and changes its story entirely.

Thats why I said I will never view The Wizard of OZ again.

I am not sure I want my thoughts on the Wiz of Oz to be messed around with. Cant a badgirl just be bad? Why does everything nowadays have to be so gray?

Got the wife tickets to Jersey Boys traveling show a couple years ago for Valentine's Day, I was not excited about going, made sure to have a couple of drinks with dinner then I was excited to see they served wine at the theater, so I had a nice buzz on. But to my surprise it was very entertaining.

Saw Wicked after that, sober this time, and thought that was great too. We actually listened to the audio book it is based on while driving cross-country, it is a very dark story, but I would recommend it if you liked the show.

Anyway, I got her a season pass to the the travelling off-broadway shows the next year and we saw Rent, Wizard of Oz, Chorus Line, and the Color Purple. I thought Rent and Chorus Line were terrible, Wizard of Oz was decent, but I was most surprised by the Color Purple. I was not at all excited to see it, it is about black female life in the 1930's, but it turned out to be really good, maybe it was just because I had such low expectations.

For those who haven't seen a show, I would suggest giving it a shot. I was totally against it but my wife wanted to go so I sucked it up and ended up enjoying it. Just like anything else, some shows are good and some suck, but I would suggest giving it a shot if you are looking for a different type of entertainment.

Heard the Lion King and Book of Mormon are both really good.

Went to NYC and saw 'Rock Of Ages' (much better than the movie) and 'Book Of Mormon' (awesome and dirty and funny, lots of oldies getting offended)

broadway show > ballet or opera

cant believe im saying this shit on here. no lie.

my wife loves them and i used to get comped really nice seats for broadway stuff so all i ever paid for was dinner and i ALWAYS got nasty sex later.

taken her to...

Phantom of the Opera
Les Miserables
Miss Saigon
Cats
Wicked
Jesus Christ Superstar

Miss saigon wasnt boring if you paid attention and she straight up executed that general by contact headshot who was gonna kill her half american kid. cold chick. badass.

I really enjoy live theatre and have been to a lot of shows... but have never been to Broadway... or NYC for that matter.

My wife and I saw the Addams Family off broadway when they came to Michigan. It was a really good show and told the story of Wednesday meeting a boy and getting engaged and him and his family meeting hers. It was pretty funny and of course seeing a hot Morticia with her boobs practically hanging out for a could hours in those outfits didn't hurt either. :icon_chee

lived in NY- bronx or suburbs- all my life and ive been to about 16 or 17 of them in my 27 years. they're overall a lot of fun. some ive enjoyed more than others of course.

in terms of recent viewings- i saw Jersey Boys last february. it was awesome. there was a ton of humor in it (probably one of the more legitimately vulgar and funny broadway shows i can think of yet still not to the point where its not a good experience for elderly people and kids, in my opinion), the songs were great- my dad always loved the four seasons so i listened to them as a kid.

yea so that was tremendous and i recommend it. i saw wicked back in late '06 with my family. like the ts said, it was pretty phenomenal. the music, the sets, the story- just a well done show.

les miserables was probably my favorite- saw it with my brother and dad about 12 years ago. that was a great show. phantom was solid, miss saigon was quite good too.

i saw 1776 revival in 1998 on broadway. highly underrated show in my opinion. if you enjoy history and live performances then that's definitely something to check out in a touring production.

I have also heard there is a show on broadway about a man and woman breaking up and telling their side of the story, but one is starting in the past, and working up to the present, and the other side is starting from when they broke up, and going backwards to how they met. Quite a bit of social awkwardness I bet. I heard some of the songs and they are pretty good. I dont know the name though

saw wicked and loved it. also saw avenue q and John leguizamos ghetto Klein off Broadway. wicked surprised the he'll out of me .
