Hello

If you are at a mini-roundabout, do you still have to give way to cars approaching from the right, even if they are yards away and probably speeding, and you are at the foot of the roundabout, stationary?

Ty

You have to give way to traffic already on the roundabout or approaching from the right...and if they're probably speeding I would stay put until I know exactly wtf they are playing at...

Should do for caution / safety. Depends how far away they are and if you think you can get away before they smash into you.

Regardless of what the law says, it's a bad idea to pull in front of a car that is yards away and speeding.

Are you stuck in a roundabout, TS? Just keep turning and wait for the roads to clear during tea time.

Just slam into their car and assert dominance.

That's what I thought, until some arsehole behind me started honking.

I drive a Kia, which I adore as my first car, but I've been driving consistently for only a few months and I have to be cautious. It doesn't have a powerful engine...

If the car hits you from the right then you are at fault regardless if he is doing 10 or 100

Don't roundabouts have a 15 mph speed limit? Here there is a 15 mph limit and traffic entering the roundabout has to yield to traffic already in the roundabout.

I hope after the roundabout was clear, you kept to a 15 mph limit to piss off that twat behind you ?

The size of roundabout makes no difference to your question, one is able to cut across mini roundabouts and not larger ones.

The junction lines one crosses when entering a roundabout serve the same function as junction lines at all other junctions. They command the vehicle about to cross them to stop if there is oncoming traffic and denote right of way.

In practice roundabouts are fluid things. If a person does not stamp their authority as to it being their turn, other drivers will often take that as a signal that they should go themselves.

If someone is approaching at speed one can give way to them for safety, but seeing as you were beeped at its possible that others thought the speeder would stop if you asserted your right to use the junction next.

See the latter part was what I was thinking.

Because I had already stopped and waited at the roundabout, those that approached on the right that were nowhere near the entrance, should have at least slowed down as I began to pull out.

They didn't, so I was poking out half-way across the line, as car after car seemed to speed up as I prepared to complete the move.

Make sure you're driving on the wrong side of the road

I kept revving to pull out, then another car would come from the right and I bitched out every time, thinking that they were going too fast and that I would be slammed into.

All replies in this thread are very much appreciated. I've become more anxious behind the wheel as of late...

I also have an important question that's sort of related to British driving!

Do people in the UK walk on the left side of the hallway like they drive on the left side of the road?

If you don't feel it's safe then you don't go. Experience in driving will help you in judging distances and speeds. I'd rather be behind someone cautious like you then have some idiot rushing around dangerously.

I'll have to post up what happened on my driving test ..

In theory yea.

Yes.

When you go abroad suddenly everyone's walking into you!

I found it a n amusing observation when I first travelled, nowadays I just switch sides without thought.
