You heard it here first. Chuka Umunna is running for Labour leader.

If he gets the vote, he will be the first black ("mixed race" as UK has no "one drop") leader of a major political party.

He would be one of two people who could potentially be Prime Minister after Cameron.

this is like a generic brand of cookies to america's oreos.

Meh.. Cameron has only been elected. Not giving any fucks about who the next prime minister is for a while.

Looks like one of them I-talians to me.

Im pretty sure that a well-spoken black guy with a british accent could convice me to walk off a cliff, they are like the pinnacle of spoken english.

Dont know anything about british politics to even have an opinion though.

It's really not important, and he won't bring anything to the table that any other labour politician wouldn't.

Such a classic British sounding name also...

Why aren't more English supporting the UKIP? In France the FN is making gains. SNP is a bit of a weird case in that it is Nationalist but I gather also leftist in its views on Islam and non native Brits.

The world will not have truly progressed until we have an obese black transgendered female midget amputee as president or prime minister.

Fixed.

On a serious note though, Out of the closet Atheist and Agnostic can't run for the Presidency yet. Europeans don't care but Americans are the exception in being a developed country that is very religious (overtly religious).

Speaking of: What was the general reaction here to Islamofascists trying to gun down people in Texas over drawings?

Britain is too racist to do such a thing. Most racist country ive ever been to hands down way worse than America. America actually elected a non-white president and has had poor white presidents. Where as Britain is ruled by privileged rich elites!

Yes sadly agnostics or atheist can't run. But honestly I don't think any American president had been a legitimate Christian in over 100 years they just claim to be.

Because the ethnic minority is more popular than the racist minority.

UKIP got 1 seat. 1.

Plaid cymry got more. And no one even knows how to spell it.

Lots of people voted for UKIP but their support was spread out over the whole country which makes it difficult for them to get MP's elected. They were actually third in the number of votes cast after Conservatives and Labour. They got more votes than the SNP did. Not sure how to put this in American terms but imagine if one million people from each state voted for a party they wouldn't win in any state but overall would get millions of votes, that's UKIP. The UK is broken up into constituencies whoever gets the most votes in those constituencies becomes the MP for that area. UKIP only managed to get the majority in one constituency despite having more votes than anyone bar two biggest partys.

If the UK had proportional representation then the Conservatives would have had to form a coalition with UKIP to get a majority government.

TLDR - Lots of people voted for them but under the current system most of the votes didn't count.

As for the OP Labour have a tough fight ahead and this guy is a Blairite so many think he's the answer. His colour won't come into we voted a woman into power back in the 80's a time when women weren't thought of as being able to lead. He talks posh which means no one will notice his colour.

Read above UKIP got more votes than all partys bar Conservatives and Labour. They would be part of a coalition government right now if we had PP instead of first past the post system. The English are becoming as fed up with the mainstream parties as Scotland.
