Brian Shaw vs Francis Ngannou: "If I had 6 months to prepare and my life depended on it..."

Yeah but that weight difference is way less relevant at the sizes of Ngannou and Shaw. 150 lb weight difference would be world changing if you're talking about 135 lb guy trying to outwrestle 285 lbs yeah, but say you have a 300 lb guy like Brock wrestling a 450 lb unskilled grappler, the weight would barely matter at that point. Ngannou would trip Shaw in like 9 seconds.

Go to 6:20 in, it ain't like in the movies brutha. By the way there is also talent level in any given sport, and Hafthor for example seems to be a lot more talented for grappling than Shaw. And Eddie is more talented at striking than Hafthor (yes I know Hafthor won but Eddie had one arm).

I think weight always matters but I understand your point as well.

Even if you talk 300lbs vs 450lbs - it still matters!

If Brian can avoid Ngannou's strikes, I think his strength, heaviness and pure brawn can gas out, tire and/or give Francis problems.

Notice how I never said Brian can beat him. Only that -> I do think it's more harder than people initially made it out to be in this thread.

A more interesting question is: who is the smallest fighter you would take at even money to knock Shaw out?

A hard-hitting middleweight? I would have taken MW Poatan over him all day long.
What are we calling a knockout? I'd consider a bet on someone like Yair Rodriguez or Jean Silva to blast a single leg kick that'd have this guy tko'd on the floor in pain.
If that's allowed I guess I'm saying a FW.

Eddie Hall took a 100% leg kick from Rico Verhaeven without pads and was relatively fine. People don't appreciate just how big and strong these guys are.

I don't know what part of him lying on the floor crying being basically leg kick tko'd is supposed to be relatively fine to you <DisgustingHHH>

I mean the easiest path to victory would be running him around and oblique kicking the fuck out of his knees probably, but Francis wins this easily

Have you seen Brian recently? He has the legs of a diabetic now. I like the guy but he seems quite unhealthy these days as most people around or over 400 lbs don't live long lives.

Last I saw, he seems pretty healthy, making videos, making money, having fun trying new things.

Seems to be living a pretty pleasant life compared to Pudzianowski and some other strong men.

He did

He fucked PFL royally and hard
PFL shouldn't have moved heaven and earth for his demands. Guy wanted to box before fighting for PFL, in addition to a spot on the board of directors for the "Africa expansion"

But he moves through life the same way he fights, and drives motorcycles.
Viciously, recklessly

In the video "FIGHTING A SILENT BATTLE | REVOLUTIONARY STEM CELL TREATMENT" by SHAWSTRENGTH, the content creator discusses his ongoing struggle with a leg infection that originated in 2023. This infection was severe enough to warrant discussions about potential amputation. Despite competing in strongman competitions afterwards, he has continued to experience discomfort and swelling in his leg, which he describes as a "silent battle". He has tried numerous treatments, ranging from less invasive methods to extremely painful procedures, none of which provided lasting relief.

The video then details his trip to Dubai for a specialized stem cell treatment with Dr. Khan. He expresses his excitement and optimism about this new treatment, especially after a recurrence of the infection led to another hospital visit. Upon arriving in Dubai and settling into his hotel, he heads to the clinic for the procedure.

At the clinic, Dr. Khan's team explains the process, which involves an ultrasound of his leg and a combination of IV and local injections of stem cells and cord blood plasma. The ultrasound reveals swelling and chronic inflammation in the affected area, but no scarring. The goal of the treatment is to improve the vascular system and reduce the inflammation. The video shows the injections being administered to his leg.

After the treatment, the content creator expresses immense gratitude and optimism, believing the treatment will be 100% worth the trip and the challenges he has faced [14:46]. He hopes his video can also help others dealing with similar cellulitis infections.
Oh, he has a leg infection.

That's not that crazy. Especially for a former athlete.

We all go through shit as we age. Especially guys like him - who put their bodies through the ringer.

Stem cell treatments for pain and inflammation are common offerings in the private and commercial medical space, but they are not considered a standard-of-care, FDA-approved treatment for these conditions - so only people who can afford it do it.

His next few videos are him happy in his custom gym lol

He updates his situation in here...

He explains that he had to take a mandatory two-week break from training to allow the stem cells to work on repairing his leg tissue, rather than being diverted to muscle repair from workouts. While his leg isn't "perfect" yet, he's seeing slight improvements and emphasizes the importance of a positive mindset throughout his recovery. He expresses how good it feels to be back to training and to "move some weight around". He concludes by emphasizing the importance of treating people with respect and kindness, as everyone is fighting their own silent battles.
I'd say he's got trials and tribulations like every other person on this planet.

But he's definitely doing better than most.

It's not just a leg infection both his legs show signs of edema, including the one which is apparently not even infected. Stem cells won't do shit for this.

The man is morbidly obese, yes, he has a lot of muscle but when your body is 400 lbs it barely cares what that weight is made of. He needs to lose at least 100 lbs if he wants to make it into his 50s.

As for this thread, no, Brian is not healthy or mobile enough to beat any half competent MMA fighter over 200 lbs.

Of course not, it's a glorified ad for a shady wellness clinic in Dubai he was probably paid to go. I'll say it again, look at his legs, both of them and tell me this is a healthy man. Being able to still lift heavy doesn't mean you're actually healthy, a lot of dead bodybuilders speak to that.

Maybe... I don't care or know the truth. Only he would know.

I can't analyze his health based off a thumbnail lol

But after you sent me to his YouTube page, he's making videos after that operation. So, he seems to be having a good time, smiling and enjoying life. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah wish we could uncap HW limits and see what some of those dudes can do. I get 240lbs seem to be the limit for regular fighter output, but we've had a few good fighters barely make 265, would be interesting to see how you handle the size. Huge dudes who can wrestle might cross train over to UFC or consider it an option that never thought possible. I know Lesnar was ridiculous, if he joined MMA early and the right way, he'd of been unstoppable.
Early Sapp and Hong Man Choi were probably the closest we've seen to huge freaks who had at least some skill. Sapp gave prime Nog a scare with a piledriver that may have caused permanent damage...and landed some nasty GnP before getting submitted. Choi took Fedor down easily and left his face all marked up even though he was submitted as well.

There were a few other giant freaks in the early UFCs and Pride (Varelens, Giant Silva, sumo wrestlers) but they had minimal skills.

Of course Sapp was roided to the gills and Choi may have done PEDs as well.

Brian Shaw always makes the most delusional statements. This is the guy who believed his fat percentage is only 18%. The guy has a huge gut sticking out with love handles and he believes he only has 18% fat because of a botched DEXA scan.
I don't get the video though, at no point does he actually say he could Francis Ngannou after 6 months

nah, @Söze Aldo is right. Brian has had bad cellulitis on one of his legs since at least 2023. there was serious thought that he might have to have his leg amputated because of the infection, but it did get better. you have to think being in excess of 400lbs for the majority of his adult life, being 6'8, and using the amount of PEDs he does, there's no way he's "healthy".

i guarantee you his doctors have told him losing weight and getting off the gear will clear up the cellulitis, but since he doesn't it lingers.
here is a vid of him in 2023 talking about his leg, i timestamped where he shows his actual leg. it's like @Söze Aldo said, shit looks like some diabetic necrosis. my guess is that it's because he's so heavy AND tall his circulation to his extremities are completely shit.

as you can see his leg looks proper fucked in 2023. this is his leg in 2025

in another video a few weeks ago he explained that he had to go into the hospital again in July of this year because it got infected AGAIN. we're talking YEARS of his leg not healing, that's definitely not healthy and usually the sign you have undiagnosed rampant diabetes , you're extremely obese or some other kind of immunity killing disease like AIDS.
