This is a quintessential fight night headliner. But I guess UFC/Paramount is.....not ready to announce they're still doing that yet <mastermind>

Ortega finally at '55 but I believe the damage already has been done to his body by not making the move sooner.

Finally moving to LW, then. Dont think he has much left to give but I still think he probably has enough to outwork Moicano.

Ortega should have been allowed to move up a long time ago. I expect him to look better at LW, but the question is whether it's too little too late.

Their first meeting is hard to draw any definitive conclusions from. It was a long time ago, in a different weight class, and while Brian did finish Moicano late, he was down like 2.5 rounds at the time.

I think Moicano is the superior technical striker of the two. He'll probably have an inordinate amount of success piecing up Brian at range with his active jab and kicking game. That being said, Brian is durable as fuck and has considerably more power in his hands whereas Renato is notoriously a bit fragile & pillow-fisted. So even if Renato wins on volume, he could easily get cracked in a wild exchange at literally any moment.

The grappling is the more intriguing part of the equation for me and I hope we get to see plenty of it. Again I think Renato is the better wrestler and positional grappler of the two and we've seen Brian get held down and beaten up from his guard before. However, Renato is not some infallible jiu-jitsu wizard. We've seen him get outgrappled and even submitted on several occasions, so it's not like this is a foregone conclusion.

I think either it's either Moicano UD where he gets put in danger at some point but survives and grinds out a win on points or Ortega by stoppage. Both feel equally likely, but I'm favoring Renato at the moment.

@fortheo what do you think?

Ortega will destroy Moicano again.

Will be good to finally see Ortega at LW, but bit of a shame it’s so late in his career now and I doubt he will have more than 3 fights left in him (but I hope I am wrong about that).

I admit it, I have zero memory of that fight.
Fight stat says though that Moicano comfortably outstruck him, until Ortega found a hail mary submission.
Which is how most of Ortega's wins happen.

Unless someone gives it to him in law suit.

I feel like it depends on whether or not moicano gasses. Ortega has really looked like a shell of himself lately and I'm not sure it can be attributed to the weight cut. Even in the first fight moicano looked like the better fighter in my opinion, but he slows down and you really can't do that against a guy who can pull finishes out of his ass like Ortega.

I'm rooting for moicano, but I won't be surprised surprised see him fade after round one and get finished again in round three. Although, you know, I can see a world where moicano gets in top and busts Ortega up bad. Ortega's guard isn't impeccable the way it was once touted and moicano is a monster in top.

It's a fun fight, but I can't really pick a winner.

By “destroy” do you mean lose two rounds and then catch a submission in the third round?

Moicano beat him up until the guilotine out of nowhere. Do you even watch fights?

In a way I agree with you guys but the official baboons had it even 19-19

ah, the good old 'ortega was losing until he won' story gets a bit old.

if you dont pay attention to commentary and watch the fights on their own, you will see ortega is either leading in the fights or drawing before coming into third rounds. this happened in the tavares fight, the guida fight, and guess what... the moicano fight too!

wow. stop being a sheep and use your own brain a bit instead of parroting the shit you hear others say.

Finally. Ortega will be a LW champion one day.

Yet again, lots of the strikes landed were mid if effective at all.

I just posted but this narrative of Ortega losing before winning has been debunked with the Tavares fight, the guida fight and the moicano fight.

I guess people think Ortega was losing to Frankie too before he uppercutted that midget and literally sent him flying off his feet.

I bet somewhere people also will claim Korean zombie was winning somehow..

Moicano should win, but I can see him fumbling it ngl

I was at the first fight

Ortega getting pieced up until the hail-marry gilly

Don’t think he lands that choke again but might be able to trade with Moicano better this time around
