Media Brian Kelleher wants to fight Youtubers. Afraid of ending up working in Walmart

"the sport will look like a joke"

it hasn't already?

I hate it but if it exposes mma and Dana and makes him butthurt, I'm in. If

I guess if you’re not wealthy and a famous you’re a nobody now.

Our worth is now determined by how many followers and likes we have.

we are all one algorithm away from paradise.

This isn’t going to end well…
I think it's a big problem that every fighter wants to be a rich celebrity at the end of their time. Being paid more is good but he's basically asking to have UFC fund his retirement from the workforce essentially the more I think about it.

The reason they get criticized is that none of them actually try to start any type of labor movement, they complain on Twitter, that's it. And if they ever get the money they want, they never mention fighter pay again.

are you stupid?

how are you going to get hundreds of individuals to unionize?

this isn't a team sport lol

they don't even listen to their coaches let alone other people

you act like unionizing is easy or something..

The sense of entitlement is Savage.

Average fighters get paid Average wages

Instead of complaining and begging get back in the gym and improve yourself . Get off social media and train.

Maybe the sad part is that people tune in to watch circus matches with famous personalities more than they tune in to watch sporting competition.
I agree people should want to watch good fights but also sadly because of my addiction to combat sports in general I also have to watch these shit shows.

What if we look back in 5 years and the Paul brothers are directly responsible for the MMA union movement. This timeline is cursed .

Honestly the UFC could have a 40-50% revenue split and he'd still end up stocking shelves. He is a below average fighter benefiting from the UFC acting as it's own feeder league / farm team. He wouldn't have made enough to set himself for the future and probably would have been cut way sooner

They actually sound genuine when they talk about fighter pay when it comes to the UFC, same can't be said about the current spearheaders who seemed they were using it as money grab selfishly,

This is quite sad. Looks like Jake Paul really started something. This is pretty embarrassing for the ufc and MMA as a whole. Dana needs to start paying these guys, else the sport will look like a joke.

The UFC is not a career. It's an opportunity. It's a career only for me and my partners!

Nothing wrong with working at Wal-mart.
That is a problem nowadays. People think they are too good for certain jobs.

Job is job.

Also Brian you should focus on the MMA career that you have. Your next fight is with someone whom is 0-1-1 in the UFC and you have been in the UFC for 4 years.
Does that not say something about you, Brain.

He's an 11 fight veteran of the most prestigious MMA org in the world, that has record breaking revenue nearing a billion and EBITA of ~45%.

100% he will be working at Walmart or similar without having another career planned.

These guys are paid peanuts in exchange for brain damage working for extraordinarily rich people.

in boxing there is a reason they cant do it in mma. ufc takes too huge of a cut.

Worked for Japan for like 20 years

Obligatory who?
Mid tier BW. Got brutally KOed by Linekar back in the day after putting up a good fight and most recently lost to Ricky Simone by decision. He did tap one of the DWCS guys, made him tap with his foot on the Conor-Cowboy card IIRC.

Guys like Kellehar are a perfect example of the problem with fighter pay. He's not elite but he is a solid fighter in one of the most stacked divisions, if we want the sport to be healthy talent wise we need to have guys like him who may never reach the top but are decent fighters and feel as if they can make this a career without worrying too much about their future prospects. I don't really care if Jones gets paid $2 million, $10 million, or $50 million since he's really not going to become much of a better fighter or have to worry about his future finances either way but for a lot of these guys being paid more can mean the difference between dedicating themselves full time to MMA or having to work full time or having to train at a low tier gym or being able to switch to a better gym.

Is a guy at his level really expected to retire at 35 for the rest of his life? He's really supposed to make enough money to live comfortably for the next 50 fucking years? I'm sure he deserves more money, but if dude has to work at Walmart because he never learned any marketable skills that's on him
I think fighters should get paid more but you have a point here. There needs to be more post fighting career opportunities in MMA for these guys who need to keep working afterwards. The issue is that the best way to set those up is to be as successful and well known as possible so just like the big pay day these bonus opportunities open more to the fighters who are already successful and don't need them as much as the likes of Kelleher. For example, if you want to be able to slid into a commentary role you pretty much have to a recognizable fighter on some level as well as being a company man and not everyone can manage that.

Yeah, Conor has enough opportunities to support half the roster, haha, but honestly, guys like Kelleher are probably always gonna have to get a job after they're done fighting. Ryan Hall got a college degree sometime in the last couple of years, and he doesn't even need a career post fighting because he makes money from his gym and instructionals, but it's very possible to set yourself up to do something else. I don't see there ever being enough opportunities out there to support hundreds of UFC fighters.
