Yeah that's why I don't question people's identity. I just let them believe what they want. Most Dominicans want to have their own identity, even ones that are clearly genetically predominantly african find offense when you point out that they are black. Vice versa for mulattos in the states. I never bring up race or ethnicity in conversation but I ask people where they are from to get a sense of what not to say. People get set off easily nowadays. I wouldn't speak to a dominican the same way I would speak to an afro-american, or a native african. Like you said, it's because of ethnicity, not race.

There’s a cultural n historical difference how Latin Americans n Anglo Americans see “race”

In Latin America they had a caste system where Europeans were on top n Africans on bottom n there were many different combinations in between, so most ppl would try to distance themselves from “black” label.

In Anglo America it’s the other way around. You had 2 opinions, so ppl had no choice but to embrace the “black” label.

What I find funny is how ppl in USA really get serious about racial identity n even sometimes try to impose their racial views on others.

African Americans are the most enlightened of all black people that I've encountered, some west africans are up there too. Since they are the most exposed to the socioeconomic hierarchy. Cubans are much better than Dominicans despite both being latin. Generally African Americans don't see racial hierarchy, they see limit in opportunity and false security . Also nice bait you placed in that message, not biting. There 2 types of black people, rational ones, and coons. Any forum of inferiority or superiority complex anyone has is based on their own shortcomings. Generally no one would trade who they are to be someone else because most people have pride and a sense of self worth, it's not a choice thing. I knew one of you would try to bait me into a racial debate eventually. Yellow card is coming for me. :(
