He looked entertaining against Simon tho, had the edge in the boxing but couldn't keep himself from being taken down. basically had his opponent pull his usual gameplan on him.

I disagree on him not being elite, at Flyweight he was absolutely that given his win over Formiga and the way he did it. Problem was that his game relied on him not being absurdly outsized like he usually is at 135. Dude's smol and has t-rex arms to boot.

He fucked himself over by constantly failing to make weight though, so it is what it is.

How many times did Borg even make flyweight in twelve UFC fights? Five times? Six? And he was like 3-3 in those fights.

Around that, yeah, still, records at flyweight are pretty wishy-washy so even with that I'd still say he was near the elite. At least at the time, the only real glaring loss is the one to Scoggins.

Speaking of, remember how Justin was supposed to be the Wonderboy of flyweight before his own weight issues, lack of grappling and fight IQ came to a head?

Sidenote: Ray has pulled out of fights 7 times (without counting the one due to the dolly attack and the one due to his son), that's almost as many as Thiago Alves, and in like half the time Thiago had been with the UFC.
 
Didn't see that coming!..

It sucks for him and his family, but it was long overdue, unfortunately. 98% would have been cut for less. Hope he can get stability and come back stronger.

Agreed. Doesn't seem like he's in a place in his life to pursue the career of a pro fighter. I hope he finds a job where being punctual or reliable aren't requisite traits......not sure that exists though.

Definitely a huge part of his struggles is the issues with his son. Pains me to see some of the comments in here. I feel for the guy. Regardless, probably better for him at this point. Prove he can make the weight out of the ufc and hopefully return in the future.

yeah, i agree. if he didn't have a sick child, he would have probably been cut sooner.
 
He's not a bad guy, but he's had 12 UFC fights and withdrawn from something like 9. Yeah, there were some legit situations where he had to pull out, but when you show up to work 57% of the time, the writing is on the wall.
 
About time, nobody wishes bad upon Borg but he became a liability.
