News BREAKING Legend Rousimar Palhares Comes Out Of Retirement Set To Return Oct 30

It’s debatable. Palhares was landing strikes on Shields that could have done the facial damage. I’ve seen the fight a few times and there’s not really any proof one way or the other. Here’s Palhares side of the story, I’m personally not a fan of either fighter so I’m looking at this from an unbiased point of view.

I mean, it's not really a different story, he mostly talks about Shields being greased. He does suggest the eye damage could have been legal strikes, but he does also talk about pushing into his face, where you can easily end up fouling someone. Problem with the grease claim is, even if that were true, its not something that could be verified through pictures/video, while Paul's fingers can be seen in Jake's eyes.

If you hear about Palhare's life growing up, you become a little bit more understanding of his erratic behavior and inability to follow the rules. He had no formal education and started working from the age of 5 as a farm hand with his parents. I will try and find the article, but he talks about having to eat what they fed the animals, because his family was too poor to afford food.

When he joined BTT (Or one of the other premier Brazilian teams, I don't recall), they bought him a cake for his birthday, and it was the first time in his life that he had an actual birthday party.

While this doesn't excuse his behavior, it does help provide context. Renzo Gracie described him as having the mentality of a child: https://www.bjjee.com/bjj-news/renz...ith-him-before-his-superfight-jiu-jitsu-expo/

Some quotes from the link:

“I love the guy. You can’t find a nicer person. People say I’m a nice guy, but ‘Toquinho’ is 10 times nicer than me. I don’t see him having the intention to hurt people.

“He doesn’t know how things work in the real world. He has the mentality of a 12-year-old. You can’t treat him like he’s a grownup.
Still should be banned. Either he's an asshole, or he's borderline retarded enough to be unsafe in competition proven repeatedly and his coaches are kinda assholes for allowing it. Or a bit of column A, bit of column B. Any pity for his past should be preceded by such a ban

Hopefully a return to the UFC at the welterweight division. The division is so weak right now, he has a chance in becoming a top contender.!

i'm sure he can make 170 if he has both of his legs amputated. and maybe an arm.

“I never gouged his eyes. I was pushing his face because he was hitting my eyes with his chin," Palhares said. "He says his eyes were like that because I eye gouged him, but how about my kicks and punches? Is he crazy? I beat him up, tapped him, and he’s saying I did that because I eye gouged him? That’s pure crap."

I’d say that’s definitely a different story. If you watch the fight again you’ll see he was landing big strikes on Shields in the standup. Again, I’m not a Palhares fan, I thought he held heel hooks too long twice in the ufc, but I didn’t see anything wrong with this fight other than Shields looking for a way out with eye gouge claims and then getting subbed.

Someones leg or Paul's chin is in serious trouble

Didn't he end some guys career in the UFC Mike Pierce? I can't remember.

Whatever. Fuck that dirty motherfucker.
I still don't think he what he did to Jake was so bad. He didn't hold it that long. They eye gouging on the ground is just next level Jon Jones and Cormier stuff. Jake should've been suspended. He's a sore loser.

Mike Pierce's Wiki

Pierce next faced Rousimar Palhares on October 9, 2013 at UFC Fight Night 29.[24] He lost the fight via heel hook submission just 31 seconds into the first round. However, Palhares continued cranking the heel hook even after Pierce tapped out and the referee stepped in, leading the UFC to cut ties with Palhares the next day.[25] Pierce suffered a sprained MCL and a torn ankle ligament.[26]

Who hasn't heard all of this shit a thousand times over. People have been making excuses for his behaviour for the past ten years.

If he's functioning on the level of a 12 year old, then he shouldn't be sanctioned to fight professionally.

I've never understood the apologia surrounding this guy. Certain fighters say the wrong thing or fuck up in a fight once, and fans never let it go and turn it into character defining moments. This dude has been deliberately injuring people for the duration of his career, but the overly judgmental fanbase finds that to be endearing. Just bizarre logic.
