Like, yeah, Jimmy has bad Fight IQ at times and Walker is dangerous in that first round. And sure, the MMAth favors Johnny I guess.. But the thing is, Walker has shown just as many (if not more incidents) of egregiously bad fight IQ.

Furthermore, Crute has shown far better mastery of the fundamentals during his time in the Octagon if you ask me. He looks more composed under pressure and also handles being the nail better. Jimmy gets better every time he steps in the cage and actually looks like he has the potential to be someone at 205 someday -- maybe not a worldbeater, but certainly Top 10, maybe even Top 5 material if he irons out his deficiencies.

Conversely, Johnny talked all about going to SBG to revitalize his game and traveling the world, visiting various camps on this spiritual journey to learn everything there was in order to reinvent himself from the ground up as an entirely new fighter. What we should have gotten from the way he was talking and the time/effort he put in was the kind of change we saw from Brian Ortega between the Holloway and Zombie bouts. Instead, we got the same old Johnny Walker who went life and death with Ryan Spann in the space of one wild (albeit fun) round, nearly getting finished multiple times and showing multiple still extant holes in his game until finally getting the upper hand over a prospect who nearly had a very competitive fight with Sam Alvey his last time out.

Don't get me wrong, it's entirely possible that Walker comes out like a wild man and catches Jimmy sleeping in Rd 1. They're both big boys who aren't afraid to put it all out there, regardless of what might be advisable. But I just think Jimmy is the better, more well-rounded fighter with a higher ceiling.

Excited to see this play out regardless.

Oh, of course. He's got a massive ceiling and I'm not saying his IQ isn't going to improve. I'm just saying he has some dumb moments based on where he's at currently, and that isn't going to have changed much from his last fight to this one I don't think.

It'll take him longer because he doesn't have Walker's flash, but he's definitely got a good chance of getting right up there in the title mix.

Yeah I think you'll be suprised at how far removed he is from his submission loss. Last fight I thought he fought excellent also, but let's see. If he tries to exchange with Johnny Walker it will prove for sure you are correct.

My problem with Crute from the beginning is that he won't shy away from banging it out and getting worked up when he doesn't really need to.

I think it was against Misha or whoever, but he finally got free of the grappling, but instead of getting up, he stupidly tried to throw some shots from down on his knees.

I think he definitely will strike with Walker, and I don't think he shouldn't either. He has the power to knock Walker out for sure. Mixing it up with his grappling will go a long way towards stifling all of Walker's flashy nonsense. I mean, Walker was very close to getting sparked out by Ryan Spann in his last fight. Crute just needs to not brawl and pick his shots smartly. I don't think Walker makes it out of the first round if Crute fights this way.
