Boxing or MT?

HOLY SHIT!!! from 3:15 to 3:30 has got to be some of the slickest shit ive ever seen in my life!!!!
Ya those slips were ridiculous. Doin the Matrix then drops the guy right after making him look silly...

If someone tries to tell you that NakMuay's have shitty hands just show them that highlight :icon_twis

What is even more crazy is the fact that Samart fought orthodox stance in Muay Thai and southpaw in Boxing

thats just shows 1. he trained his ass off... must of lived in the gym and 2. he was an athletic freak that was born to fight.

If you have to pick one or the other, Muay Thai is the way to go. You'll learn a hell of a lot more: kicks, knees, elbows, the clinch game.

Sure, in a "boxing only" match, the pure boxer is gonna be better than the thai fighter, but that's about the only place where choosing boxing over Muay Thai is a good decision.

Would your opinion still be the same if I asked boxing or MT for a street/bar/club fight/self defense?

Muay Thai- Way more weapons. Fists, eblows, knees, kicks and clinching.

Muay thai with boxing as a supplement.

I'd love to learn more boxing but i also love to round kick stuff (people). I feel more satisfied landing a nice teep or hard round kick. A stiff jab is a close third.

Both. They are not too far removed anyway, as evidenced by the fact that Muay Thai incorporated a great deal of western boxing technique in to it's repertoire back in the day.

Yes, my answer would still be the same because of Muay Thai's clinch game. The various entrances/exits, attacks/defenses, knees, elbows, takedowns, etc. It's like a grappling match on the feet, where you have to stay one step ahead of your opponent or you're getting clobbered or tossed. In boxing you get broken up when you clinch.

i gotta disagree... boxing is king of the bar/club fights. what happens when you go to the bar? you get drunk. throwing kicks, going for knees or even clinching isnt easy to do while you're drunk. and 9/10 times you're gonna be out numbered (atleast for me its like that) so you dont wanna run the risk of being on the ground. so best thing you could do is box and if you have to... RUN!!!

and remember. my opinion is based on being in a club or bar while you're outnumbered. and when it comes to street fights.... people dont fight fair on the streets. so sometimes martial arts isnt the answer.

You learn to streetfight when you're a kid. You learn how to swing a bat, how to break a bottle, how to throw a baseball. :icon_lol: Then you learn to box later.

since i learned how to box.... ive been on a tear when it comes to bar fights lately :)

Mua Thai gives you more weapons.

If I was looking to fight in bars, I'd choose Krav Maga or Systema over Muay Thai or Boxing anyday...

Fortunately I leave that type of behavior to assholes that don't know how to control their ego when they get drunk...

I stay away from the bar fights. Not like it used to be. People press charges these days.

To the OP: I would say train a the best MT gym in your area and supplement with boxing. I trained MT for about 1.5 years and then started working with the boxing trainer at my gym. He really tightened up my punches and worked on my head movement. If I had more time I would still train boxing.

don't know about your neighborhood, but these days there are many muay thai guys who have great hands.
the myth of thai fighters having bad hands is exactly that,a myth.
i practiced both, but muay thai will make you more complete.

Very true. Thai boxers are trained to deal with punches, some western gyms teach bobbing weaving and slipping quite well. Obviously not as much as a boxing gym would, but at least someone with good muay thai training should know how to deal with a pure boxer. Boxers on the other hand totally neglect their legs, kick them and they crumble.

As for bar situations, i think a good teep will keep most away. Then maybe a knee/kick to the nuts while you get away so you dont get stabbed.
