Boxing match shatters UFC's highest gate record

and hows that working out for him? Ngannou isnt some famous mma champ like McGregor back then. Not many boxing fans even know him and he sucks at boxing. Thats why not one of the champs even thinks about him. They can all make more money fighting each other.

Only one remotely possible is Fury. He has developed serious duckeritis lately and might look for an easy payday but even there I doubt it and he also has a fight lined up.

Bruh, that's the point. Boxing fans will know [Wilder/Fury/Whoever] and UFC fans know Ngannou, there is some overlap of fanbase but not completely, sales will be big.

One of the top guys will be tempted to do this, I think it'll get done.

Last Saturday's boxing match between Tank Davis & Ryan Garcia did 1.2 million PPV buys and had a gate of $22.8 million

The 2 highest UFC's gates were McGregor vs Alvarez in NYC and McGregor vs Khabib in Vegas.

Both sports are amazing but it's clear that worldwide Boxing is still more popular than MMA. A big Boxing fight will always be bigger than anything MMA can produce. Boxing is filled with more genuine characters while UFC guys play roles like in the WWE.

So what you’re saying is 20,000 people paid an average of $1140 each to watch a boxing match.

Hooray for boxing, I guess?

It feels like these huge boxing matches are lucky to happen once a year while the UFC is putting on big enough things every quarter or so.

Doing it so frequently means the UFC just don't hype up their big stuff as much as they could/should. Those big boxing fights are all hype in comparison. I don't even watch boxing, but still tuned in for Tank/Garcia.

I know, with that we can conclude that the UFC is dying...

It wasn't even for a belt lol, what non title fight has ever sold that much for the UFC?
It was a fight much, much rarer than a title fight in boxing. There are like 70 world champions in boxing lol.

This was a fight between two elite undefeated talents, in or entering their prime. Boxing is well known for its politics and each guy's representation not wanting to risk their guys record. It isn't uncommon for a guy to get to 30-0 or even 40-0 without ever having fought a live body.

This fight was the exception of all exceptions in boxing. It was something you hardly ever see. That's why it did so well, it was much bigger than a title fight.

The problem is the UFC is already going in that same direction. Only hardcore fans give a shit about most of the cards and it's getting worse. We can see how empty the places often are for the prelims at many UFC events. I've been following MMA for a lot longer than my Sherdog join date and I barely recognize most of the fighters on early prelims now. Back in the day when we saw big cards every 3 months or so it was different. Now the product is often so watered down I'm finding myself only caring about the main event and a few other fights on the card. I doubt i'm alone.
The prelims were always empty. That isn't new.

Didn't we just have Fury-Wilder though? Didn't Canelo just move up and fight Bivol? Isn't Bivol fighting Beterbiev soon? I don't think it's as rare as you're making it seem lol

boxing is easier to follow for the masses.

put the ufc on for the masses and you'll the get the "why doesn't he just get up from mount"
