Agree

I don't blame people hitting Kovalev dec but Kovalev KO is definitely wasting money

Most likely outcome by far is Ward dec. Just too smart, too tricky, always five steps ahead. After watching Chilemba vs Kovalev I see no reason why Ward won't make him look silly. Elite, technical defensive boxers always beat elite punchers
Saul beat Lara somehow on the scorecards.

whitaker(although he at the time was allegedly on cocaine)/trinidad, frazier/ali, duran/hearns, toney/jones jr, leonard/hearns(rematch where ray later admtted he lost)

possilby also camacho/chavez as prime hector had some of the best footwork in the game(similar to lara but hector having superior punch resistance) at the time puncher chavez beat him down.

jermain taylor was considered another puncher at the time that he fought hopkins and won two controversial decisions. after beating holyfield and john ruiz james toney was considered a legit heavyweight when he lost to puncher samuel peter.

I don't know if I'd consider Kovalev a puncher in the traditional sense. He slides in and out and his movement is pretty damn good. He's gonna win this fight if Ward consistently gives ground.

puting 1u on Ward dec @2.10 and considering some more on Kov dec and Ward ML

I'm bucking the trend and going with Kovalev. I think it's inaccurate to bet on Ward based on the old 'boxers beat punchers' adage in this case. Kovalev has the more diverse skillset. Damn good footwork, head movement, chin, power, technique, countering, unpredictability. On tape he's looked better than Ward of late. Yes, he struggled in his last fight, but I'd say Ward looked even worse against Brand. Not to mention he'll be bigger, he's been more active, has a more judge friendly style, and he seems to want it more.

Man, I disagree with like 80% of that.

Just one instance. That Kovalev wants it more? What do u base that on?

Ward just hasn't looked into it in his last few fights, whereas Kovalev looks like he's loving every second of being a great boxer. It looks like he wants to stay on top at all costs.

I just don't see it at all. Of course he's not knocking dudes out. But he just doesn't do that. But he seems plenty hungry and actually seems to really want to prove something here.

Can anyone who follows boxing more than me make an argument against goes to decision at -155? What are really the chances someone gets KOd? Ward is so tactical and great defensively, but not the biggest puncher. Am I missing something? Seems like a -200 worthy line

50 year old B-Hop wasn't hurt once against Kovalev. That tells you all you need to know

B-Hop is one of the greatest defensive fighters of all time and Kovalev dominated him (knocked him down in the first) to a shutout on the scorecards. Sure B-Hop was 49 at the time but he is an alien.

He's not the boxer he once was though. Way out of his prime

Very tempted to pull the trigger on Dmytro Kucher (vs Marco Huck) @ 3.75 (11/4) (+275)

I'm in for £100 if you recommend it.

I'm so close to throwing down £100 myself right now, going to watch a bit more footage and let you know later on. I've got a hunch on this one and can really see it happening but will decide for sure later.

take it @CR0W knows hos boxing?

Without blowing my own trumpet I'd say I know a lot.

Backed quite a few underdogs at very good odds in the past, not posted so much in the boxing thread recently but tempted by the fight I mentioned this weekend. Can't find all my previously tipped ones after the forum revamp but here's 2 I've tipped in the past.

£300 for £900 return.

Anthony Mundine vs Charles Hatley

Mudine's body is shattered. Tendinitis in both elbows and a hip injury. He's barely done any sparring at all for this fight and his camp admit themselves that he is relying on his experience and crafsmanship to get him through this fight against the tricky young American Charles Hatley.

At 25-1 Hatley boasts a solid record, albeit he is yet to face a truly dangerous opponent. This is no doubt a big step up in competition but he has an awkward, tricky style. He can fight Southpaw and Orthodox and has power and speed.

Mundine's last opponent (Sergey Rabchenko) was solid but lacked any trickery to make Mundine truly work.

I'm taking Hatley for the upset at 2.75 [7/4] [+175]. His trickery and speed may very well be enough to get the upset and boast a veteran's name on his winning resumé.

The fight is Yudel Jhonson vs Daquan Arnett.

I had mentioned Hatley training with and being quite close to Mayweather, Arnett is another guy who has previously trained with Mayweather and is also quiet close to him. He's on the up, only 23 years old but I like his style and can see him doing well in his career.

This will 100% be his biggest step up as he takes on former Olympic Silver medalist Yudel Jhonson. Truth is, Jhonson hasn't faced anyone that big a threat besides Willie Nelson until his last fight where he faced Jorge Costa and lost a deicison. Jhonson isn't a one punch knockout boxer but he does have a nice straight left and as you can imagine, being Cuban and an Olympic medalist, he is technically skilled. So far, at 34 years old it looks certain he'll never compete with the top fighters in the division.

Arnett has a lovely lead left hook like Mayweather. He used it well when he floored Miguel Zuniga with his back against the ropes counter-punching. He has also beaten Dashon Johnson as many of you will know from his poor UFC stint. Is this fight a step up for Arnett or for Jhonson? 100% the step up here is for Arnett but I believe Jhonson is the perfect fight for him to show what he can do and take that step up.

I think he'll take the decision.

Daquan Arnett @ 3.00 - £100 stake.
