That is what I love about boxing, it takes a lifetime of dedication in order to become an all time great
MMA you got bunch of guys who hold full time jobs and somehow manage to win a title
take it from me, mma guys may be some fantastic fighters but they also do more bs'ing than work. It's not work if you're lollygagging, some of the best fighters I've known (technically) were guys who didn't really have any solid character inside, I happen to think mma/martial arts attracts a different person than boxing for the most part. My point is, if you lollygag and do just enough work to hold down a job (I'm sure we all know a lot of people like this) and lollygag in every other area of you're life it's not that hard to do. Also, in mma/martial arts, the talent pool was very small for a long time, it's getting better but if it keeps getting better and better, that mindset won't be around much longer.
