Book Review: The Paleo Solution, by Robb Wolf

I think it's suppose to be a diet to make Robb Wolf a lot of money.

:icon_conf

Yeah, giving out tons of free content and prescribing a demanding diet few people will ever be convinced to attempt is a great business model for someone who only cares about making a lot of money

You think Robb selling a book for 15 bucks is going to make him crazy rich?

Cool story bro.

It's just like any other fad diet. He does seminars and sells books. What else could he do? I'm sure he's getting paid well enough.

Sure he's getting well-paid. He's also getting paid well as a coach. He offers something of value to people who choose to pay for it. He also has offered tons of free information, and he's selling something that works and helps a lot of people. People always jump on others for selling things on the internet for no reason. Robb's put tons of work into what he does and he does it well, why shouldn't he write a book and sell it? It's America, it's capitalism, deal with it or go move into a commune somewhere. He doesn't pressure people into buying it or require membership to his website or anything like that. In fact, a lot of his book sales are going to people who have already tried eating paleo and found it effective. People provide services, write books, make things, etc. and, other people pay for them. You can get all the information you could need or want on the paleo diet from his website without buying his book. What's your beef?

Edit: Also, on the off chance you're serious, or if you're kidding and other people don't realize it, evolution doesnt happen in decades. Seriously.

I don't care if he sells 100,000 copies of a book about eating manure. Good for him. I just disagree with your notion that he's selling a book in an effort to promote health.

Sure it can.

Sure it can.

So because a profit is made, he's not making an effort to promote health?

It certainly can.

This is absolutely true. There are numerous examples, and the Belyaev foxes are a fun example. Not so fun examples relate to viruses/bacteria.

However, I believe Sinister meant "human evolution", not all instances of evolution. We replicate a lot slower than foxes, and are not bred for some selected trait, so Sinister's statement is also correct in that sense.

If you actually listen to his podcasts frequently, he is horrified that he is trying to be painted as the "paleo" godfather, or, rather, its beacon. He wants this to be a "beacon" for BETTER health.

I think your trolling or have not listented or been to Robb's website enough. Or listened to the FREE podcasts which have wealth's of information.

Also, google how much money people actually make from Books.

I really appreciated your review. I have already read the book but the review did remind me to pick up Greg Everett's Olympic Weightlifting, which I also want to read. I don't think the book is the be all end all of Paleo but it was my real introduction and I think it is a good starting point for most people. It changed my life and made me get deeper into the lifestyle. As you said, he doesn't have a total hardline approach like others in the Paleo world. His approach made it accessible for me and let me glean the parts that work for me and not feel guilty about eating or doing things that others might not see as 100% Paleo. And it is 2011, so it doesn't make sense to live completely as our ancestors did. I also recommend his podcast almost more than the book. He is entertaining for a science geek and he all his paleo/diet discussion is around training whether its Olympic lifting, Crossfit, BJJ, kick boxing, MMA, football etc so I've learned just as much about different training plans as I have about Paleo

My uncle is an author that has published 5 books through a legit publisher and our family had to loan him money last year to pay his rent. So yeah, there really isn't much money to be made in books these days. Just like with music, movies, etc , the internet has changed people's ability to make money since you can get just about any of it for free if you really want to.

At 10-$20 a book, where does all the money go? Promotion and Publisher? Ridiculous. Bad system.
