My favourite of his was Owning Mahoney.

Guy could do comedy as well. Along Came Polly was a mediocre film, but his scenes in it were amazing.

The more that mention it the better. It should probably be a poll option, even though the movie was pretty small. It's a mesmerizing performance in a tragic story.

Also agree he was funny guy too....I always thought his voice and delivery would have been perfect for standup. Not sure if he ever did any.

Boogie Nights is one of my favorites, if not top 3. Had to pick that one.

My buddies and I quote with zeal that scene of him in the car all worked up calling himself an idiot, any time we do something dumb or make a bad bet or say something stupid that ruins our chances with a girl:

I thought he nailed it in Talented Mr Ripley. Boogie Nights is good but people sleep on him here

I mean he’s good in both, but they’re very much supporting roles.

Seems odd that you’d pick those 2, from a guy with as many prominent A level lead performances.

If OP is going to count boogie Nights as one of his best roles then Talented Mr Ripley is a contender as well. I don't know his other movies as well. I once watched him getting his face bit by a serial killer in a movie and I didn't care for that one.

Fair enough.

You mean Red Dragon?

Believe that was Gary Oldman (well he sliced his own face off before being eaten by pigs).

PSH was set on fire whilst bound to an office chair, I believe.

Edit: my bad, they were 2 different Hannibal Lecter films.

The sheer amount of times in Boogie Nights he calls himself an idiot. A novice says it a few times. A(n) (idiot) savant says it maybe 5-7 times. A true master, like Phil goes all the way to 9 to really emphasize the point. Also, the, "You wanna kiss me?" line is pure genius.

Edit: ALWAYS a good excuse to use this clip.
